So…yeah…work has been kicking my fanny this year.  I have been taking my computer home most days, so sewing at night has not been happening.  Now I am really glad that I didn’t get a place in this season’s line up.  I would be soooo stressed out!

Okay, Week 3 for Project Run and Play (missed Week 2), and we have Boy’s Week!

Yes, I am late…

But…yay, for Boy Clothes!

Kai seems to have an inordinate amount of black stuff in his closet.  It is a boy thing, most definitely.  The older they get, the more limited the color range gets.  Gone are the days of cutesy animal prints in a range of colors.  Now he is really only interested in character shirts and Green Bay Packers jerseys.

Which is just fine, and supported by his parents and extended family. 🙂  In enemy territory you have to show your Packer pride! Go Pack! (Let’s just forget that last game, shall we??) 😉

Anyways, I got him a new pair of black jeans from Zulily in a size 10.  They were too tight in the waist for our skinny kid and they were barely long enough.  Gosh, I love their NO RETURNS policy.  Done, done, done.

*sigh*

Time for mama to make something that fits.

This is the “Goofy” pattern #32 from Ottobre 6/2010.  I think this is a cool pattern with a unique design to it.  You are supposed to do it with a button fly, but he would rather have an elastic waist.  Faux fly it is!

The directions in Ottobre are less than stellar, and I wouldn’t call this one something that is easy to construct.  Those pockets on the front are kind of killer for a novice sewer.  It is one of those pattern pieces you half sew, move it around, iron, topstitch and then finish sewing.

I really like how these pants turned out.  I used corduroy and a aged black denim.  I topstitched in cream thread.

The next piece is a western style button up shirt.  I have made this one before.  We are going to a rodeo this week (can’t wait!), so I figured he needed something themed to wear there.  This is a rodeo fabric with the clown bullfighter and a bull.  I was running really low on the red fabric, so that was a challenge to get enough to accent the shirt.  I had to pull from the scrap basket, but I got enough to make it work!

I even found some western-style snaps in my stash.  I had one extra, so I just made it.

Differences from the pattern:

  • no flaps on the front pockets
  • added a yoke overlay on the back

As I stated before…not a fan of the collar.  I was too lazy to draft a real collar stand and collar, though.  Plus, I was just running out of time to get it done.

Of course, I still didn’t get it done in time.  *sigh*  Sleep…who needs sleep??

I will update this post when I get a picture of him wearing it.  Hopefully, by this weekend!
