This week the guys came bright and squirelly on Monday morning and started in. They had a week or so delay, what with the funeral and another job that was supposed to be done by the 1st. They got the tile in the bathroom all laid down and it looks fantabulous! Vern wants to make sure he gets pictures to put in his portfolio.
The wine cellar is pretty much done now, we just need the door casing. They laid the tile down in there before they left last time, and Brian grouted and sealed it last weekend. It is a really nice mosaic tile that looks like a checkerboard with a few squares that have a design on them interspersed. I helped the guys decipher the racking on Monday night, so we got that all figured out. It was like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. They just had pictures with a few words on it and no directions. Slightly less than helpful. There were a few “extra” pieces left over, but it seems pretty solid. Not sure where they were supposed to go. The door and the cooling unit are both in, but we were a bit dismayed that the cooling unit didn’t add humidity like we thought it would. Apparently we are supposed to have a fountain in there to add humidity to the room. Really?? Gosh we didn’t plan it well AT ALL. We’ll have to figure that out yet.
Brian happily filled up his cellar on Wednesday night, organizing and checking his master list. He has everything in a spreadsheet that he can filter and sort and has the exact number of bottles we have in the cellar, tasting notes and their point rating. I know you are surprised right? Someone with two bachelor degrees in computers and accounting surely couldn’t be that anal. 😉
I am also going to be writing a letter to the manager of our local Home Depot and CC the corporate office. I am more than a little ticked at the service and lack of knowledge by their staff. One of their staff recommended we use a plumbing part that is illegal, requiring us to rip it out and start over. Their cabinet design staff designed our cabinets in such a way that they exclude an end piece, thus having nothing for a countertop to sit on. We have to order another piece and wait for that, then install and then call for a counterop measurement then wait for that. So, yeah….hopefully it will be done by Christmas. We also called for an estimate on gutters. The guy showed up one day and we have yet to hear from him again. I guess the economy is rockin’ since they don’t seem to want to keep our business, despite the thousands of dollars we have spent in their store. Then their paint guy estimated how much we would need…totally WRONG. So, yeah…I’m ticked and ready to tell someone about it.
I got the doors and trim ordered last week. I was a bit confused when I walked into the “store” since it was more like an office. The price was good, but I think they deal with more builders than individuals. They still like money, though, so they took our business. That will be about three weeks before we get them.
My task this weekend is to get my sewing table sanded and painted so it can be attached to the wall. Hopefully my evil plan of cutting up a dining room table will all come to fruition. It’s going to be a tight fit.
Now that the floors are mostly in and the dust settled down a bit, we can look forward to less of this:
This is the wall below the window ledge that looks out on the backyard. Kitty loves to sit and watch the squirrels and birds. I think she needs a bath when this is all done!
Well, your basement is looking better than our house. How exciting to see it come together after the headaches.
Just gorgeous! Wow! wow! wow!!!
So sorry to hear about Home Depot! You are not the only person I have heard that from… Lowes is supposed to be a lot more professional… ugh! So so sorry about that! Just what you don’t need in a project like this!
Love how the basement is turning out, Stacy!! Cute cute little hand prints on the wall… lol!
Hugs.. Amy
Oh oh… thankyou for recommending that other documentary. I am going to look for it! So appreciate the rep. 🙂
Looking lovely!!
Wow! This looks incredible. Makes me want to get started on our basement! Congratulations. What an amazing addition to your home.
HHHHHHhmmmmmm!!! It looks like there is enough liquid of delight in that room to make you not give a hoot how humid it is in there…LOL
Guess you will just have to put a pail of water in the corner???? ROFL
Sorry couldn’t help myself…. I am sorry bout the rough time…it is looking really nice.
I am in awe of your basement. How beautiful is that?? And the Home Depot’s service here is just like yours. Not so good. We usually try and find a local guy to do our work because we’ve never had good results with Home Depot or Lowe’s!
That tile looks awesome. You did a great job picking it out. It came together perfectly. I know you will be so happy when it is done. Looks like you are in the home stretch.
Ooooh, can I move in? Please? It looks gorgeous – and it’s not even done yet! It will be worth it, it will…just keep saying that until you believe it. 🙂
And wow, look at all that wine!
Wow! That looks amazing! I’ve got to build me a house – James needs to build me a house – so we can have a gorgeous bathroom like that.
Absolutely beautiful. And you guys have a wine cellar? WOW.
I’m impressed. We have a basement…that’s where the school room is.
We’re in the middle of all that tropical depression rain today. Such a lovely day to be off to our one day of school.
UGH. I’d rather be in bed.
Julie

Oooooo excellent!!! So pleased there are pictures! the colours and textures are mouth watering and I laughed about the spreadsheets and the points rating on the wine bottles!!! hahahhhaa. A man after my own heart….if I had the time 😀
That last picture is actually pretty cool btw!
Gorgeous! You have such an incredible eye for design!
Ohhhh….I am so jealous! The wine cellar looks amazing!
Wow, Stacy, it looks AWESOME! Can’t wait to see the finished product…and I know you can’t either!
