When I saw Bek on Tuesday she was so listless.\u00a0 She couldn’t focus on who I was or communicate much at all.\u00a0 When I went in to see her yesterday she was completely different and so much better<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

She was able to talk somewhat, but that trach in her throat makes it hard.\u00a0 Basically, you have to try to figure out what she is saying through lip reading.\u00a0 It wasn’t too bad, but a couple of times I was having a hard time understanding her.\u00a0 I think through my extensive experience at trying to decifer toddlerspeak, I was able to figure out most of it.\u00a0 It’s a different skill set, but similar enough!\u00a0 So we had a conversation…something that five days earlier wasn’t possible.<\/p>\n

She was moving around…both arms, which it took awhile for her to start moving on her right side (tumor side), so that good.\u00a0 She doesn’t seem to be able to see with her right eye and she has short-term memory problems, which will hopefully resolve themselves with time.<\/p>\n

It was apparently news to her that she had a brain tumor, so her Dad had to explain that to her (which I’m sure he had done before…memory issues).\u00a0 She said that she was quite the *itch before her surgery, so she was realizing that her personality changes were the result of her tumor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She said she liked most of the nurses, but there were a few strange ones she didn’t like.\u00a0 She also hit on one of the male nurses.\u00a0 Gettin’ that spunk back!<\/p>\n

It was a nice visit.\u00a0 I sat there with her and her dad for about an hour on Sunday afternoon.\u00a0 Having a conversation with her was more than I hoped would happen when I pulled into the parking ramp in downtown St. Paul yesterday.\u00a0 Time will tell…but right now she is doing so much better.\u00a0 For almost losing her a few times, the eyesight and memory loss seem like such small worries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
