Kai\u2019s newest trick:\u00a0 Wandering around the house holding items up like a gun (measuring sticks mostly) and trying to emulate shooting noises and the \u201cstance\u201d.\u00a0 He may perhaps be watching too much Stargate SG-1 (yes \u2013 we are Sci-fi junkies), and we really should be ashamed of ourselves for being such half-a$$ parents.\u00a0 What is to become of him???\u00a0 He may join the military or even worse \u2013 become a hunter\u2026(for those few of you who do not know – Kai’s grandpa loves to hunt and I think already has a shotgun on layaway for him).<\/font><\/p>\n

The Terrible Two\u2019s<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n

Sometimes I think that Kai and his little cohorts at daycare sit in circle and think about ways to torment their parents.\u00a0 The daycare teachers are oblivious to this daily ritual, as they, just like us, cannot understand 95% of what they are saying.\u00a0 I imagine this is their discussion:<\/font><\/p>\n

Kai<\/strong>:\u00a0 \u201cSo what did you do yesterday that drove your parents crazy?\u201d<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Avery<\/strong>: \u201cI screamed until I threw up when my mom wouldn\u2019t give me any more cheese.\u00a0 How about you?\u201d<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Kai<\/strong>: \u201cI wanted to watch Ice Age, but after the 3rd time through, Mama wouldn\u2019t let me watch it again.\u00a0 I threw myself on the ground and screamed at the top of my lungs.\u201d<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Lydia<\/strong>:\u00a0 \u201cDid she let you watch it again?\u201d<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Kai<\/strong>:\u00a0 \u201cNo, but she gave me some apple juice so I wouldn\u2019t wake up sister.\u201d<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Avery<\/strong>:\u00a0 \u201cI should try that next time\u2026\u201d<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

The Terrific Two\u2019s<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes, our child is brilliant.\u00a0 At least that is what we tell ourselves, like so many other parents.\u00a0 We all have a tendency to overlook the moments when they ask the same question 10 times in a row and focus on when they excel in one single area.\u00a0 It just makes us feel better.<\/font><\/p>\n

At this age it is simply amazing at how quickly they develop skills they have been working on for the past year.\u00a0 Overnight it seems as everything has \u201cclicked\u201d in their little minds.\u00a0 It makes you think that all those Baby Einstein products are worth the extra money (quite obviously a terrific marketing ploy — who wouldn\u2019t buy a product for their child with that name on it??).\u00a0 Kai has quickly become adept at putting his many puzzles together, on which it says they are for ages ranging from 2-4 or 3-5.\u00a0 Since he is at the bottom of the age range and has them almost mastered, he obviously is a gifted child.<\/font><\/p>\n

Now if he could only pronounce \u201chelp\u201d correctly, instead of saying \u201chelk\u201d.<\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
