It’s that time of year again…time to sew Anya some swimsuits!  The kids are at a real camp in the woods for the next two weeks and they swim everyday.  Not sure how warm that pool is right now, though.

This is also going to be my June Pinterest project.  If you noticed…I didn’t have a May one.  I am going to call it good though, since I had 3 in April.  I was inspired by this swimsuit I found on Zulily:

I liked the fringe and the boy shorts for the bottoms.   I drafted up a pattern for the top, and made sure it was lined.  The bottoms were modified booty shorts I made her for gymnastics.  I just lowered the waist a little and made the legs a little shorter.  They are still bigger than the shorts in the inspiration picture.

I made the first one with fabrics in a red and a tribal design.

This one ties at the neck and has a hook closure for the back.

This next one was a bit of a pain.  The gray shiny part of the fabric is very “sticky” in trying to sew it.

For this swimsuit I did the bottoms a little different and made a separate crotch piece.  Not sure what is more comfortable for her, so I was trying a few different ways.  It isn’t super pretty, but I was trying to figure out what would work the best.

The top has gray FOE as the trimming and straps, and no closures.  I figured this would be easier for her to get on and off by herself without needing any help.  I also did two layers of fringe on this one.  I cut the fringe with my rotary cutter, and that made it pretty easy to get straight, even lines.  Hopefully the fringe will hold up to the pools, but we shall see.

I’m sure I will sew a few more swimsuits for her before the end of summer.  The ones I sewed her a few summers ago are getting a bit thread-bare.  When they swim a lot during the summer I like to have several days worth of suits, as I am not a fan of doing laundry all the time.  Really, who is, though?? 😉
