We got up on Day 2 to this view outside our window…

…then we got dressed and headed to breakfast.  After filling up at the buffet, we spent some money at the gift shop.  The kids each got a stuffed animal that they treasured the rest of the trip…and continually tried to lose.  Then, we were off down the mountain!

We were headed to Lake Chelan, and according to the map instructions that I failed to print off, it should have taken us between 3-4 hours.  It took 6 hours.  Google Maps was not our friend during this trip.

Just a note that if you are in the mountains and need driving directions, your phone will not work.  You will need to “use the Force” until you come upon a gas station and can buy an actual-honest-to-goodness-paper map.  Of course, you will have already made a few wrong turns along the way.

Just sayin’.

Upon FINALLY getting to Lake Chelan, we stopped at one of the two tasting rooms we planned to visit here.  After that long drive, we were ready for a drink.

It was Nefarious Winery and we came specifically to try a 95 point wine (2009 Rocky Mother Syrah)…which was not on the tasting menu.  Of course.  We tried their other wines, were unimpressed (not horrible, but not good enough to buy) and then bought two bottles of their good wine in hopes it would be sufficient to drink on the balcony that night.  We didn’t drink both…one was a gift for our friends in Seattle.

While we were tasting, the kids were running around the tasting room.  I’m sure the guy working there was rather pleased.  It was hard to fault the little urchins, though.  They just spent 6 hours in the car with no electronics to entertain them.  They were a bit squirrely.

Not rabid like the ones in the park…but close. 😉

After the tasting we checked into the hotel (Best Western at Lake Chelan…we got a suite with a kitchenette…really nice!), and then the kids and I took a dip in the pool before dinner.  After a swim, we got ready and went to the next winery on the list…Karma Vineyards.  They had a well rated restaurant, which wasn’t overly large.  We ate out on the patio and the kids fed the Koi fish in their pond and played Go Fish! while we enjoyed our leisurely dinner (the service was not exactly quick) and some good wines.  We bought another few bottles for a host gift to our friends in Seattle.

Playing Go Fish! at the winery…

After dinner, we headed back to the hotel, the kids took showers and then settled in to watch a DVD.  We settled in to watch the sunset on the balcony and drink our bottle of Nefarious in cheap plastic glasses.   Even in cheap plastic glasses it was good.
