We are finally coming to that point in a toddler’s evolution that the little brain starts to understand words and then mimic them.  It really seems like it happens overnight that the words “cheese”, “juice” and “No!” seem to have profound emotional responses.  “Cheese” and “juice” elicit a happy mimic of the word while running towards the refrigerator and bouncing in place.  “No”, of course, elicits spontaneous crying…a little actress in the making!

Anya’s repetoire of words includes:

    • Kai
    • Yeah!
    • Daddy
    • Mama
    • Ball
    • No (usually includes a fervent shaking of the head)
    • Duck
    • Moo
    • Kitty
    • And the list goes on…

She seems to be picking up words much faster than her brother, who has always prefered to just whine incoherently when he wants something.  I have a feeling she will surpass her brother’s speech abilities.  He says a lot…it is just in some foreign language that we can’t understand most of the time.  We can glean a word or two usually so we can somewhat understand what he is saying…

Kai: Gabo aaw mwa car sa daddy aaaa big!

Mama: Daddy has a big car?

Kai: Ahhh, Yep!

Do these kids come with a universal translator??  ‘Cause we need one!
