When I first looked at this photo, all I noticed was that it was underexposed. Then I looked deeper.
Is anything ever so pure as the gaze of a child? The sum total of their life has been steeped in play and all manner of frivolity. They don’t know of the heartaches that may occur in their life. The most disheartening experience they have come across is being sent to bed at an early hour or having a favorite toy confiscated for bad behavior. You can see their unencumbered soul in the purity of their eyes. It is like a light in a dark cave. You can’t help but be drawn towards it…and feel better for having seen it.

This past week I set out to get some good shots of my kids where they were looking at me and tried to give them some direction. Amazingly enough…they cooperated mostly. I am really happy with all the images I got this week. 🙂

What do you have to share today?
What wonderful images. I love the first one only because her eyes seems to swallow you up. And you put it so beautifully, the windows to their souls are to clean at this age. It’s wonderful.
Here’s mine, I had a couple older “big eye” shots that I love and was going to post but dinner took us in a different direction. A tad more…humorous if you will.

Wow, you did get some great ones. Her eyes look so big and full of wonder in that first shot.

Wow those are amazing. I am still working on techniques to get my kids to look at me.
Here’s mine:

I love that paragraph about the purity of a child’s gaze. You certainly captured it in both K & A. I can’t believe you got cooperation from them! And once again, Kai is looking so mature here.
I have hardly touched my camera this week. I think I’ve taken 2 pictures – of a lizard. So I’ve got nothing today.
Your kids have the most wonderful gazes when they peer into your camera lens. I love the b/w look. Makes their piercing eyes more dramatic. 🙂

Isn’t it amazing how easy it is to get lost in their little eyes?
Here’s my shots. They are old, but so far they are my favorite ‘eye’ pictures for each kid.
I love, love, love the pictures – and your words fit them perfectly. Thanks for such an inspiring start to the day!
Stacey, I’m really digging all the talk about eyes lately. Catchlights and all. I feel that most of the shots I love the most are when the eyes are just right on.
Looks like your kiddos finally looked ya…or your camera…in the eye 🙂
Since Daryl’s and Mia’s eyes are light, I don’t get the opportunity to work with dark eyes very often.

Yea, I’d be happy, too. Those are amazing. Really.

Oh, that first one is just beautiful! I tried this week to get some good eyes, I was kinda successful.

Thanks so much everyone!
FYI my spam blocker is catching about every other comment with the links (I even turned off the aggressive one!), so if it doesn’t show up right away I will get it out of my spam. Sorry for that!
These are gorgeous!
I am rushed and totally cheated on my shot for this week. Forgive me?

Beautiful shots of the kids Stacy. They’re both getting so big…
Here are a couple shots from the pile I’ve taken in the last two weeks:

I love what you said about their innocence. It is so true and I think that way about Ella often. I worry about her heart or her spirit being broken for the first time. I hope that never happens! I love the picture of Anya. Big beautiful eyes on her!
A little late, but better than never…… My post is up:

Wow.. those eyes are captivating! I had no idea this week’s theme was “eyes”… I’m such a dope! Funny though that my post yesterday and today were about catchlights to lighten up those dark brown eyes us asians tend to have! 🙂

That first shot. WOW. Seriously, I struggle to get contact with my 2 year old. He won’t stop long enough for me to hit my shutter button.
You nailed these Stacy. Very captivating.
Incredible!
Those eyes look like pools that you can just dive into – simply lovely. My eyes are up – late but up.
I love your background! 🙂
I also love these pictures – the eyes are amazing! 🙂 You have such an amazing talent!
Beautiful post stacy and gorgeous captures of those big soulful eyes!
And, I LOVE your new blog layout…are you still with wordpress? This is a totally different layout than I’ve ever seen…Love it!
You did get some good shots. They both have those childhood eyes that just draw you in!
