Time for gymnastics to start up again, and so due to that continuing growing thing…the girl needed new leos.  I prefer to make them for a few reasons.

#1.  I can make three for the price of one

#2.  It takes about an hour to make one

The hour is depending on what you plan to do with the leotard.  If you cut it up and add some interest that takes a bit more time.  I also tend to use colored fold over elastic (FOE), so that makes it go much quicker, too.

Here was version #1 to make sure it fit.

It mostly fit the girl, but she didn’t like the seam up the back that is supposed to help it fit closer.  She is picky.

Rhinestone applique = Michael’s

Booty shorts = Me

Got to have the booty shorts that match!

Next version:

I cut it up a little bit, and I also ran out of the gray FOE.  The arms are regular elastic, but she still like it.  The FOE is pretty soft and pliable, so it makes a nice finish on the edges.

I put some iron-on rhinestones on the top in a simple design.  The key here is to test the fabric and heat first.  You don’t want to burn the fabric.

Booty shorts = Not Me

She said they were getting small, so glad I made new ones.

Next, we have a long-sleeved one for when the weather turns cooler.

Booty shorts…of course!

I added some “non-shedding” glitter elastic to the front.  Not quite non-shedding, but not horrible.

Lastly we have a gold one with black FOE on the edges and a simple black rhinestone design.  I didn’t have very many rhinestones, so I kept it simple.

She should be good for awhile now!
