Ah yes…yet another Spring Break where we are NOT going someplace warm.  That is the sucky part of being an accountant this time of year.  I am still working on getting tax returns out to people and it is quarter-end.  Fun times, fun times.

In honor of warmth that we will receive in about 2 months, and the second week of Project Run and Play…here is an outfit that is a reminder of warm weather.

It actually was a balmy 60 degrees, which feels like a heat wave after this winter!

It reminds me a bit of Hawaii, with this flowery fabric.  I have used this fabric before, and managed to use up the rest for this outfit.

The top is a simple tank top with a peplum at the waist.   The peplum is just a small circle skirt attached to the waist of the tank.  I measure out the waist of the tank and then figure out what the circumference needs to be for the center.  Next, I use this handy little tool to make the cut out for the center and go an equi-distance from the cut to make the circle.  I attached lace to the edge of the peplum and then turned and topstitched it down.  It adds a bit of body and definition to the edge.

I attached white fold-over elastic to the neckline and the armholes.  I drafted it to have a slight racerback to the top.  I also added some stretch lace to the waist.

Next, I made a pair of jean capris out of a stretch twill.  It is a modified Ottobre pattern.  The pink is a good bottom weight fabric with slight stretch.  I made sure that the back was a bit higher, as she complains quite a bit if the back is too low when she sits.  This appears to be roomy enough that she won’t split the back in half, which she has done before.  Much to my consternation after spending HOURS making pants.  These look like they are good, though.

The fly even looks halfway decent!

I put these little iron-ons onto the back pockets, which I have had forever.  Unfortunately, after she was playing outside for a little bit they started to come off.  I will have to hand-stitch them on a little to make sure they stay where they are supposed to!

Now I am going to start on a new swimsuit for her for summer.  This is going to be Pinteresting Project for April, as it was inspired by a swimsuit I pinned from Zulily.  This week is the first week of the Skirt Fixation Adult Create Challenge, so I will be sharing that, too!

Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
