This past weekend both us and our little angels got a break from each other.  We went down to Madison to visit friends and the kiddos went to stay the weekend with Grandma and Grandpa.  We have now gone there enough to the point that Kailan is finally cognisant of what that means.  He will utter these phrases over and over again….Grandpa, lawnmower (Grandpa has a big riding lawnmower, which he is fascinated by), Wyatt (friend and co-conspirator) and Alex (Aunt Stephy’s horse).  These are all quite fascinating things/people that he doesn’t have at home.

When we got to their house, only aunt Stephy was there.  She was attempting to put together Kai’s potty for his visits to the Grandparent’s house.  That was one thing I requested.  I have to haul half the house, but I don’t really want to have to haul a potty.

When we got there it was snack time so I went to the refrigerator to see what provisions Grandma had bought, and I found….nothing.  I was really hoping she was grocery shopping at that very moment or the angels may turn into little devils if they have to go without cheese and yogurt all weekend.  It could get ugly.

Grandma Gretch pulled into the driveway about the time we were leaving.  She said she got them “lots of good stuff” with a twinkle in her eye.  At which point I reminded her that she had the kids for 2 days and she had to deal with them eating “good stuff”.  We attempt to keep “good stuff” out of our children’s mouths as much as possible.  The pain of out of control screaming children just isn’t worth it.

When we picked them up on Sunday afternoon they were ready to head home.  Apparently they had been laying by the door like faithful dogs waiting for our arrival.  How sweet…we have them trained well!  By the sounds of it they had lots of fun.  Grandma Gretch said that Anya didn’t sleep very well on Saturday night, but that was probably because she had too much sleep from her car cat naps.  It was either that or the Dairy Queen they gave the kids.

Reap what you sow, Grandparents.  Reap what you sow….
