This is a top I made to go with another pair of jeans I bought for Anya.  As you can see…it is for the Fall and not for the warm weather we are experiencing now.   I figured that she would need a long-sleeved top to go with these jeans.

At first my energy was lagging and I was just going to do a plain ole top with the iron-on vinyl (another Silhouette store design).  Then, I started thinking of what would be easy to do to give it some “oomph”.  I have seen shirts with these “pockets” before, so I thought I would give it a go.

It was pretty easy to do, and it was just a little extra cutting.

• Cut the pattern about 3-4 inches below the armhole, and cut 2 pieces for the bottom.
• On the outer piece, cut a half circle big enough to put her hands in it.
• Bind the half circle with ribbing/other knit fabric with stretch/lycra.
• Sandwich the top piece between the two bottom pieces and sew together (leaves no seam on the inside to irritate).  Top stitch.
• Put a band on the bottom of the shirt to close up the bottom.  You could just hem the bottom together to close up the “pocket”, but a band looks nicer.

She probably won’t wear this for a few months, so no pictures of her in it yet.   This had been on my sewing table for a few months, so I just wanted it off.  Now I really need to focus on getting the kids some more summer wear done.  Anya needs some more shirts for summer.  I just can’t spend money on shirts when I have so much fabric to sew up!
