Our children have a toy called the Leapfrog Learn Around Playground. They got it for Christmas last year from Grandma and Grandpa C. and Aunt Stephy.
Now this happens: Recall
If you read the recall notice it says “LeapFrog has received 145 reports of children’s arms becoming caught in the plastic tube, resulting in 54 reports of minor scratches and bruises”. So, I’m supposed to take this away from them so they don’t get yet ANOTHER bruise or ANOTHER scrape. It would just add to the colorful hue of their skin already marked by them hurting themselves on purpose. What’s the big deal? It said “minor” right??
That sucker was +$50 and if they get their arm caught with some scrapes then hopefully they won’t do it again! A learning experience…yet another thing that the Learn Around Playground will teach them! Keep your arms out of things they can get caught in! They should add that to their marketing materials instead of issuing a recall.
The kids aren’t using it a lot, but usually at least once a day we hear the music go off. Now Kai is even starting to use the letters on it. I like it and don’t plan on putting it away. I did call for the repair kit, but I’m not going to store it in fear of them getting hurt. They can get hurt just walking down the hall…we still encourage them to do that!
Now if it said kids were getting their arms broken, then I would put it away.
Bad parent? Maybe. However, there were lots of things that we played with as a child that would never make the cut nowadays. Somehow we survived.
Who reports these things anyways? If my child got a serious injury from a toy, then I would report it. But if they just got a scrape then I wouldn’t think anything of calling the company and making a fuss.
They must have a lot of free time on their hands. Unlike me. I have blogs to write and clothes to make. No time for reporting injuries of my children. That would take just too much time out of my day. Yep, I’m a bad parent.
