I have a secret wish that I were one of those free spirited souls that could fly to Jakarta and immerse themselves in the culture and smells of strange and usual places. A person that would not feel out of sorts living out of a well-used suitcase, eating strange foods and having no problem not knowing the local language, yet is able to communicate comfortably enough.
I am not one of those people. I love the comfort of our home, the familiar smells and routines. Although traveling to new places is fun for short periods of time, I love to come back to our nest. When we arrived home from Sonoma after a week this spring, I almost cried when Brian’s car battery was dead in the airport parking lot. I was so ready to go home.
Our home is warm and, hopefully, inviting. I love warm colored tones and the dark woods, and that is what we saw when we first walked into it. Our eyes somehow skated over the rooms full of wallpaper. We definitely saw it upon the home inspection, though. Nothing a little elbow grease couldn’t fix.
In decorating, I used a lot of red/burgundy and gold tones. Our library turned out just the way I envisioned. It is supposed to be the formal living room, but we saw it as something different. I painted all the mismatched cheapie bookcases, and we picked up each piece of furniture piece-meal until it became a complete room. Now all it needs is a nice hardwood floor under our beautiful rug. Someday…hopefully.
It is more than a library, as it is the playroom. We have two trunks full to the brim with toys, which also function very well as window seats. It took me 6 months to find them…at Target of all places. This is the room that is most used during the long winter months. I have fond memories of sitting in this room much of the time when I was on maternity leave with Kailan. We were home during the coldest months of the winter and opted to stay in much of the time. I would read books and nurse the little grazer while I watched the snow fall outside.
Our warm comfortable nest. This is what it looks like most of the time…just a little messy. 😉
Of course our little hooligans…
I haven’t done a post on our rooms in some time, but if you are interested (warning: less than fabulous pictures ahead 😉 ):
I need to do some more – since our bedroom is one of my favorites as far as the painting went. It took me 3-4 days to paint it, which I during the last week of maternity leave with Anya.

So…What hominess does everyone have to share today??
Oh, just an FYI, today I didn’t turn off my spam blocker that grabs comments with URL’s in them. When I turned it off last Thursday I got nailed with hundreds of spam comments. If your comment doesn’t show up right away, don’t worry I will rescue it. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Looooooooooooove your style. Can I come over?
Mmmm…it is so cozy and comfortable. I would hole up there for the winter, too! I LOVE A.’s funny little expression – that is great!
My little piece of “home” is up, too.

That was such a fun house tour–and revisiting some of the rooms I remember enjoying before!
I’m embarrassed to admit at least two of our rooms are still linen white–the WHOLE house was that color when we moved in, so we are slowly making our way into the world of color. It USED to be easier to to home projects before my two sidekicks came around! 🙂
I wanna come over, too. That armoire (sp?) at the back of the first picture is gorgeous. My craft room is the first project on my to do list after the holidays. It’s what I’ve wanted for sooo long and I can’t believe that I haven’t even touched it.
I know I’ve confessed before on my blog to examining photos closely to get an idea of the environment where folks spend their time. I have always loved what I can see of your home–it’s definitely inviting and comfy.
And, I am like you. Home is where I love to be the most.
Wow that room is amazing. I love that rug and your furniture. Such beautiful colors. The kids are way cute as always.
Your home is absolutely beautiful! 🙂 Come decorate mine??? haha.
Here is what happens everyday around our house:

Love the wall treatment! It looks gorgeous and rich.
We found one of those “toy boxes” from Target too – loving it!
By the way… we are total fans of Hercules Hooks too – what could be easier?
Love how Anya’s new dress looks on her!
Your home is warm and beautiful and inviting. I adore your style. Can I move in???

Hi! I’ve been reading you for some time now, first comment though. I love your site. And I LOVE your home! It is beautiful! Your library is lovely.
Ok Stacy…your home could not more reflect the YOU that we see through your blog…that is awesome!
You home has such rich colors. I think it helps with the imagination. Thanks for sharing
Oh Stacey…it’s HORRIBLE…you should move out…ummm and I’ll move in….uh, cause….ok, fine….your home is fabulous and I’m jealous. I was just telling my husband this evening that I have a secret wish to have a big house that I can fill with awesome homemade decorations for the holidays and invite “50 of our closest friends” over to gawk. He didn’t look too frightened so maybe someday I’ll get my dream. In the meantime, I’m loving our basic studio like apartment and drooling over your great rooms 😉
Thanks so much everyone! As you can tell we love color. 🙂 My next project is painting the entry way which wraps upstairs to the hallway. I just need to figure out what color to paint it yet.
