I have a secret wish that I were one of those free spirited souls that could fly to Jakarta and immerse themselves in the culture and smells of strange and usual places.  A person that would not feel out of sorts living out of a well-used suitcase, eating strange foods and having no problem not knowing the local language, yet is able to communicate comfortably enough.

I am not one of those people.  I love the comfort of our home, the familiar smells and routines. Although traveling to new places is fun for short periods of time, I love to come back to our nest. When we arrived home from Sonoma after a week this spring, I almost cried when Brian’s car battery was dead in the airport parking lot.  I was so ready to go home.

Our home is warm and, hopefully, inviting.  I love warm colored tones and the dark woods, and that is what we saw when we first walked into it.  Our eyes somehow skated over the rooms full of wallpaper.  We definitely saw it upon the home inspection, though.  Nothing a little elbow grease couldn’t fix.

In decorating, I used a lot of red/burgundy and gold tones.  Our library turned out just the way I envisioned.  It is supposed to be the formal living room, but we saw it as something different.  I painted all the mismatched cheapie bookcases, and we picked up each piece of furniture piece-meal until it became a complete room.  Now all it needs is a nice hardwood floor under our beautiful rug.  Someday…hopefully.

It is more than a library, as it is the playroom.  We have two trunks full to the brim with toys, which also function very well as window seats.  It took me 6 months to find them…at Target of all places.  This is the room that is most used during the long winter months.  I have fond memories of sitting in this room much of the time when I was on maternity leave with Kailan.  We were home during the coldest months of the winter and opted to stay in much of the time.  I would read books and nurse the little grazer while I watched the snow fall outside.

Our warm comfortable nest.  This is what it looks like most of the time…just a little messy. 😉

Of course our little hooligans…

I haven’t done a post on our rooms in some time, but if you are interested (warning: less than fabulous pictures ahead 😉 ):

I need to do some more – since our bedroom is one of my favorites as far as the painting went.  It took me 3-4 days to paint it, which I during the last week of maternity leave with Anya.

So…What hominess does everyone have to share today??

Oh, just an FYI, today I didn’t turn off my spam blocker that grabs comments with URL’s in them.  When I turned it off last Thursday I got nailed with hundreds of spam comments.  If your comment doesn’t show up right away, don’t worry I will rescue it.  Sorry for the inconvenience!
