This room was one of the few painted rooms in the house when we bought it. Surprisingly enough…no wallpaper AND we liked the color! We purchased the table and buffet set about a year after we moved in, but I really didn’t like the cream cushions. We have children, so we knew how long they would stay cream….about one meals worth of creamness, right? Also, just so’s ya know, the room doesn’t normally look this nice. This is my sewing area, so it usually looks like a tornado landed in the room and whipped a bunch of fabric and notions into a frenzied pile of messiness. It is only clean when we have guests…most of the time at least. 😉
We bought our china set before we lived here so the color on the walls was really quite perfect. Our china set is a dragon setting (SURPRISE!) and is really quite pretty and unique. Artwork on our walls (which I didn’t really get a picture of here) is by Ruth Thompson from her Angels series.
Replaced the 80’s brass light fixture with the pretty one in an aged nickel finish.
I recovered the cushions on the chairs in a uphostery fabric that has silver and gold threads throughout. I need both metalics as the light fixture is silver and the dining room set has gold accents. This was the PERFECT fabric for this room.
Made the curtains in a silver toned fabric (took 10 yards…gah!) and then used the leftover upholstery fabric as a swag over the top.
Made the silk/dried flower centerpiece and made a small runner out of the upholstery fabric for underneath the flowers.
There were really no DIY nightmares for this room. Surprising, right?? I think the light fixture was a pain to put in, but when isn’t it a pain, really?
Hope you are enjoying my little decorating series. 🙂
That dragon china is SO cool! I’ve never seen anything like that.
Thanks! We got them from the Franklin Mint about 5 years ago.
You would run out of my how screaming when you see how badly decorated it is. Too bad you don’t live closer to Mass. I’ve love to have a consult. I have no idea what I’m doing.
