I felt like I was barely getting by with Kailan, being that he was a “high needs” baby.  He was a little colicky, tended to be over-emotional and wanted a lot of attention.  He hasn’t changed all that much, really. 😉

With Anya it seemed like I had a little extra time to engage in activities that I was just too stressed to think about with Kailan, and one of those was making baby food.  If I had known how easy it was, I would have done it with Kailan.

I did some research on this website:  Wholesome Baby Food

Basically all you have to do is cook the veggies as you would normally, just without adding any seasoning.  The fruits you just basically simmer until soft.  Then take the veggies and fruits and puree them, thinning with water, breast milk or formula.  Put them in an ice cube tray and freeze.  Once frozen, pop them out and place them in a Ziploc baggie in the freezer and you have 1-ounce portions all ready.

Easy.

I would do a bunch up at a time and then I was all set.  The only thing I had to buy was the ice cube tray at Walmart.

The basics I did were: sweet potatoes, butternut squash, peas, broccoli, pears, apples, prunes and avocados (don’t even have to cook these, just mash them up!).   I made carrots after the 8-month mark due to nitrates (see the website link for more info on that subject).

Do a little research on it, and take it from me…it doesn’t take much time, but it gives you great satisfaction that you are giving your baby natural food not loaded with preservatives.  Plus, it’s cheaper and with kids that is always a good thing!
