Theme Thursday – Holiday Aftermath
Share your favorite memories from Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice…you get the drift. 🙂Â

Hope everyone survived the festivities, food and present carnage. I know my kids are probably bummed that they don’t have anymore presents to open, but I’m glad to have a sorta clean house. I was up until 1:30am on New Year’s Day getting most of it cleaned up. The tree always comes down on that day. After the tree went down, we dumped out their toys and started figuring out what had to go. We were ruthless, much to the urchins’ consternation. I got about 3 bags worth of toys that are going to charity in the next pickup. They still have PLENTY to play with, though. Kailan was hoarding his new toys, so I wouldn’t “throw them away”. Because I’m mean like that. What’s that saying, “If your kids don’t think you are mean, you aren’t being a good parent”? 😉

I think we are going to call Kailan Squirrel from now on. You know how squirrels make little nests in trees from bits and bobs they find in the forest.  We think Kailan was trying to build a nest in the corner of the couch…his most favorite place on Earth. It was made of candy wrappers. Yeah. Â
Mean, mean mommy threw away the rest of the candy after we found the nest made of individually wrapped Reeses peanut butter cup wrappers. Apparently he thought he was hiding the evidence…or he was just being lazy and couldn’t quite make the effort to put them in the trash. Could be either one, really. That’s our boy.

Our two week vacation went by so fast. I went into work a few days this week, so I guess I’m getting back into that groove…slowly. I’m sure the kids will be glad to get back to their friends, though Kailan may go into cartoon withdrawal. They never slept in the whole time, but opted to get up around 6:30am (or earlier) whereby we would grogily tell them to go into the office and watch Nickoldean.  I feel no guilt over that decision…at all. Of course, Brian and I have been staying up way too late and are having a hard time getting up in the morning. During one of those mornings when neither of us wanted to get up, the kids cracked into their fruit snacks and they each finished off at least 5 packages because they were hungry. I feel a little guilt over that one. Of course, they chose the fruit snacks over the Nutrigrain cereal bars, so there’s guilt but then there’s also the knowledge that the little hoodlums would have probably chose M&M’s if I hadn’t already thrown them away.
You can just send over that Parent of the Year award anytime…I’ll be waiting for it. 😉
(Note: I was going to include a picture of me drinking wine while I was helping the kids put together their gingerbread house, but my computer was conspiring against me. Read what you will into that… 😀 )
Just poppin’ in to say hello after all the craziness of the holidays. I’m staring lesson plans in the face (yuck). And hope to get something accomplished today. The holidays have made me and the kids a little lazy.
Reality…..
sometimes I’m not sure I like it.

ha ha ha. Love the idea for the theme. I think I might just go take a photo of the current state of my house; it explains it all. haha.
Anyway- wine… sounds great…even now at 10:00 am. THAT is the kind of day we’ve had so far.
HA! I can’t wait until my kids are old enough to sit in front of the television, while I continue my slumber. There is no harm in fruit snacks; they contain vitamin C! 🙂
Vacations are like that. A blink and a blur and WA LA. it’s back to reality. sounds like you and your family had a great holiday. wishin you and yours a very happy new year.
Ahh, your Christmas vacation sounds wonderfully normal!
We got snowed in, which was a bit of a downer – but we really enjoyed our time together.
Just got a couple more inches of snow, so we might be getting cabin fever soon! I think we’ve watched the ELF movie 14 times since New Year’s Day… 🙂
Great theme!
Hee, Hee…I hear ya!
We are finishing up the rooms today in our house…we have been talking and talking about the fact that we are going to be giving some things away. We’ll see how that goes when they actually go into the bag 🙂
Happy New Year!
🙂
My kids are old enough to get up and turn on the cartoons in the morning on their own now, too. It’s a right of passage. We used to watch Sat cartoons while our patents slept in–my brothers and I loved it. I’ll send you the Parent of the Year award as soon as I’m done with it *)
Happy New Year!

I am with you on sending the kids to watch tv while you get a little more R&R. Every morning Ella crawls into bed with me and cartoons are on so I can get a little more shut eye. By the time 8-8:30 rolls around, I figure I better get up and sign onto work. Thats the ONLY reason I crawl out of my cozy bed. The guilt sets in once it becomes 9am or so! Kids will be kids….attacking the fruit snacks! Thats funny. Atleast they know how to fend for themselves! :o) Keith was home all last week too and the week just flew by. On a positive note, he gets so ansy hanging around the house that its never been cleaner!
Hmmm, I think I’ve already posted most of my holiday pictures! I’ll see what I can find. I am ready for the holiday break to be over. Hubby has been off work for three weeks now, and we’re both going crazy – time to get back to the regular routine!
Oh, and we did the “go watch cartoons” thing this morning, too. 🙂
I subscribe to that Mean mom quote. :p I would, of course, cause I get called that all the time. lol
Ah..Reeses PB cups..a boy after my own heart. :p
Too funny.
My husband makes little nest too, but I know it’s because he is to lazy to go to the trash can.
I should get the same parenting award. Francesco walked into daycare the other day with a baggy full of M&M’s that I use to bribe him out the car (I did not have the stroller that day).
M&M’s breakfast of Champions!
Oh yeah, I wouldn’t feel a bit guilty about that one either…I can’t wait until my kids are old enough that I can stick them in front of the TV so I can sleep in!!! Good luck getting into the groove for 2009! Happy New Year!
Parent of the year? Nah, that’s me, for actually telling one of them to “go away and leave me alone!” one morning at about 6 AM. Yes, I did. And I only felt minor remorse/guilt when they ate Christmas candy for breakfast that day!
The going back to work thing is always a bit tricky. After my 10 days off, I find it a little hard to focus, must be why I’m catching up on all the blogging I didn’t do during those 10 days. 😉
House cleaning after Christmas is definitely a good thing. I did something similar after the tree and the decorations came down. Although before then I swear I vacuumed up after the family and the relatives and the friends 4 times in 3 days!
W.W. is still asking where Thomas the Train and Salty went. They go around the tree at Christmas and he’s a little bummed they’ll be gone for a whole ‘nother year.
Hahaha you bad, bad mummy! No Flaming Sword Award for you…except for the bit about giving away toys. Yeah, that was good!! 😀
I might even manage a Theme Thursday this week, oh boy oh boy!
