I painted our bedroom on the last week of maternity leave with Anya. I had purchased the fabric for the curtains months before and wanted that to be the color scheme of the room. I had bought the comforter before and it matched the fabric, so they worked together. We had some awful pastel floral window treatments from the previous owners, so I took them down and used the board and drapery fittings to put my new treatment up on the window. I did very little sewing on them, too. I used fusibly hem tape for most of the edges. Easy!
I love the look of crown moulding, but knew it wasn’t in the cards at the time, so I decided to do a paint treatment that would evoke a look similar to that. First I did the bottom layer of paint, which was a mixture of sponge painting and “washing” the paint over a semi dry sponge layer. After that dried, I taped off a 2 inch border on all the edges of the room and painted that in with the red paint. Several layers later, I took the tape off and then stenciled and stamped the decorative fleur-de-lis.
The lamps used to be cream, so I painted them gold. I added the fringe to the plain lamp shades.
I love how this room turned out, and three years later I still love it!
It looks so elegant! I just don’t have an eye for decorating. We’ve been in our house for 2 1/2 years and almost all the rooms are still builder-white. I am impressed at how low-budget your room seems. A comforter, some fabric and some paint? You did a wonderful job.
Oh how pretty! What an amazing job.
I am not jealous.
I am not jealous.
I am really trying not to be jealous 🙂
So pretty! Our bedroom is the one room in our house I have not touched at all. No paint, no pictures, no art. Pretty sad. I love your sleigh bed!
Stacy that is gorgeous!!
What a beautiful sanctuary for you and your honey!
Hugs.. Amy
Thanks ladies! I really do love it. 🙂 Decorating with paint is pretty economical, and if you don’t like it it is pretty simple to paint over it!
it is beautiful – what a fantastic place to hang out – it is plush, rich and inviting – but not too stimulating…so you can, you know, sleep!
I love those colors together! You are so creative….perhaps some will rub off on me!
🙂
The curtains are totally catching my eye.
It’s no wonder you love it – I do too! It looks so luxurious and cozy.
What a lovely room, Stacy! Reds and Golds are my favorite. I have those colors incorporated in a few rooms in our house as well. I love those little circle picture frames. Do you remember where you got them?
