What is a weekend without a super fun visit to the ER? Anya fell down the stairs about noon on Saturday, completing one of the rites of childhood. She topped off this rite by showing signs of a concussion. Although she started crying right away, didn’t pass out, and woke up just fine from her nap, she proceeded to throw up many, many times later in the day. I called the our pediatric clinic’s nurses line, and figured they would tell us to take her to Chidren’s Hospital downtown, which she did. I packed up a few bags just in case it was going to be a long night and off we went.
Why is it that the good hospitals are in the crappiest neighborhoods? We had to check in with a guard at the ER. How comforting is that? It makes you worry that you car may not be there when you are done. Like you need another thing to worry about at the ER!
We didn’t have to wait too awful long. It is unfortunate, but we did get bumped ahead of others that were sitting there longer. Since Anya could have had a CONCUSSION, we were most likely bumped ahead of neurotic parents that just wanted to get their child’s cold checked out.
They asked all the questions and since her only sign of a concussion was the vomiting, they did a head scan. That turned out all clear, so they gave her a grape popsicle (??????). Well, at least it made her feel better! They gave us a sheet with the signs of a head trauma..and yep, the vomiting was on it. Basically, we just had to watch to see if she got worse. I woke her up in the middle of the night to make sure she could wake up and she was fine.
She’s been tired but still alert today, and has only thrown up once. She also has a low fever. We will just have to watch her to make sure she doesn’t get worse. Poor little baby. 🙁
