Theme Thursday – WINTER WONDERLAND
I know some of you live in warmer climates than me (it wouldn’t take much, really), so just post what winter looks like for you. Now, I better get more takers this week! I’m sadly disappointed with the turnout from the self portraits *finger wag, finger wag*. 😉 BTW, if any of you get the chance to take them, please post and I’ll check them out. 🙂

When I came into work on Tuesday morning my thermometer on my car said -18F. That’s NEGATIVE EIGHTEEN DEGREES, and that doesn’t even factor in the wind chill. Thursday is was -24 and Friday it was -25, plus the windchill so add another -20 degrees onto that. We are hardy folk up here in the Great White North, but we hate this type of weather with a passion. I mean, your eyes start to freeze from the water in them…it SUCKS!
On top of that, you have the incredibly bad drivers. These people are afraid to drive, yet there they are…out in traffic…causing accidents because they are so frustratingly slow they are causing black ice from the exhaust getting on the road (because they are going so slow) and then people are trying to pass them on a crappy road and that sometimes ends badly. My kids heard some not-appropriate-for-small-children-words on the way home from swimming on Monday night after 4 inches of snow had just fallen. Some idiot in a Benz in front of me, who was already going exceedly slow, came to a stop on a hill…where there was no stop sign or light. Just stopped in the middle of the road because they were afraid to go down the hill. Causing me to hit my brakes and fishtail a bit. I was PISSED. If they just kept going they would be fine, but they were so afraid of driving they were causing the rest of us to get stuck on the ice and snow. After I laid my horn on them they turned at the next road. I’m all for driving appropriately for the conditions, but that was freakin’ ridiculous.
So…now that I got that off my chest… 😉
The snow is pretty and it is fun to go out and play in it when the weather isn’t this cold. I can’t give much tips for shooting in the snow, except just make sure to watch your exposure. I have my LCD screen blink with the highlights to see where it is being overexposed. If you are shooting in the cold it will drain your battery faster, so make sure it is fully charged. Also, when you go inside make sure it warms back up to room temperture before turning it on again.
I’m hoping we will get a chance to get outside this weekend. The kids have been inside for the last two weeks because it has been around zero or below and they don’t take the kids outside at daycare in those temps. As for right now, last night the kids were climbing all over the couch…they were trains. Whatever gets their energy out of them!
yep, that’s the kind of bad driving we had here in portland in december when we got snow. no one knows how to drive in it, so it’s chaos. hope it warms up for you soon :).
It’s been too depressing to try to take photos outside. The water and mud left some not so great sights.
I’ll try to figure out a good shot from my poor cabin-fever kiddo! Yep – whatever keeps those little choo-choo trains happy!
Oh, this will be an easy one! I hear you with the drivers. STAY HOME crazy people, if you cant drive in this crap!
One of these days I’ll get myself back into Theme Thursday! We are going stir crazy too to get outside and run in the snow…just a bit of warmth would be nice!
Oh dear…I can already see the hate mail coming. In SD we have had a low of 70′ the past week and today we wore sandals, got an ice-cream from the ice-cream truck at the park and drove with the windows down with the wind in our hair.
Are you sure you want me to post what Winter is like for us (ducking now!)
😉
Ugh. It is so cold. SO cold. sigh. I have plenty of cold photos…plenty!
I never took a self-portrait. I am bad… I know.
Hmmmm, I’ll see what I can manage for winter wonderland…it won’t have much white, that’s for sure!!
I say I miss the cold and the snow – but after reading that, I’m perfectly happy with texas’ nice mild winters. 🙂
wow that is cold! and what is it with them stupid drivers anyway???
there was a blurb on the news last night about a little do-hickey that was supposed to make wine taste like it had aged by just sitting it in it for a few minutes.
they actually took it to a swank eatery-pub and and the head guy (don’t know the fancy name for him) manager, maitre’d?? tried it and said that he could smell and taste a difference in the wine on a before and after taste test..
I thought of Brian when it was showing. just wondering if he has read or heard anything about it?
I will never, ever again complain about it being cold here!!!
Winter wonderland! That just cracks me up. Our highs this week are supposed to be in the 60s during the day. Of course, try the 20s at night but still I’m questioning the coat I wore to work today already. 😉 I’ll think of something.
My boy is bouncy off the walls at night because he is not going out during the day. I can’t wait till the temp. is at least above freezing. I am with you on those crazy drivers, I had an incident were the people in front of me were going so slow that they could not make it up a hill and lost traction. Then all the other traffic back up and it was a huge, huge, mess. So frustrating.
