We were telling our little man that he had to go potty all the time by his birthday to get his birthday present.  The present that has been sitting out in plain view for at least a month.  Temptation and  motivation…we will do whatever it takes for we are The Parents.  Now when he goes potty, he happily exclaims, “My birthday’s coming!”

His much adored present?  It is a Hummer pulling a trailer with 2 blue bikes and then as an added bonus, it has 2 little Hummers thrown in for extra excitement.  Kailan really likes bikes…and trucks…and trucks with trailers that he can put stuff on…and the color blue.  All in all, it is quite the toy nirvana sitting there, just waiting for his little hands to caress and adore.  The adulation of the toy is quite apparent in his gusto to be potty trained.

We are quite proud of how we have managed to beguile our son into paying attention to his bodily functions.  Knowing how to tempt your child into submission is an important skill in parenthood.  Remember that, people.

Kailan is pretty much day trained to the potty.  He even knows when it is time and will toddle off and ask, “You coming?” because you always need an observer to sing you praises on the potty.  You also need that observer to clean up afterwards or else they may hear the big potty flush and realize you tried to dump the potty all by yourself.  Dread washes over them as they quickly go to the bathroom and are presented visible wet spots on the floor.  Not fun.

Kailan has even mastered the all important #2.  I have heard some horror stories of kids doing #1 on the potty but going and putting on a diaper so they can do #2.  Not that I enjoy cleaning his little throne after doing #2, but you think they would rather not sit in that, wouldn’t you??  Ah, how lucky are we that he has figured that out!

Success! (I am now jinxing us as I proclaim success, you know that right??)
