I remember, vaguely, those nights when we would stay up to the crack of dawn and still be able to function on a few hours sleep.  Maybe the alcohol gave us untold stamina.  How else do you explain it??  That was quite awhile ago…in the distant past, when we were just a bit younger and more virile.

This past Saturday night, Anya was sick.  Yes, she is sick again…I know, she’s always sick.  Anyways, she was keeping herself awake with her coughing fits, and then in the middle of the night she started crying…a lot.  The crying was mixed in with, “Kitty!”.  Apparently the kitty wanted to sleep in her room behind the chair, out of her sight no less, but Anya would have none of it.  She was a cranky little mess and that kitty was in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Hell hath no fury, like a cranky toddler.

Well, kitty would have none of it, too.  She started scratching on Anya’s door to get in to that nice warm hidey hole, so the kitty and Anya were going at it.  In the middle of the freakin’ night.  This required parental intervention, with Brian getting up for most of it.  As it was my turn to get up with the kids at the crack of dawn, I theorized that at least he could sleep in.

At one point during this ongoing drama, I thought I heard a thud, such as a child getting out of her crib, and got out of bed.  As I rounded the corner to the hallway, a little person appeared…scaring the bejeezus out of me.  I then scared him by shrieking.  Anya then woke up AGAIN from all of the crying and shrieking.

Holy hanna, what a night.

Kailan came into bed with us for a few hours, since I figured I owed it to him after scaring him.  He needed a little cuddling after that episode.  At around 3:30 am, I kicked him out since neither of us were getting any sleep. He feels the need to constantly have his feet on you, and that gets old real quick.  He was happy to go to his bed where he had space to stretch out.  Of course, who comes sticking his face in ours at 6:30 am??  I’ll give you one guess, since that is all it should take.  Does this kid not realize he needs sleep??

I spent the better part of the day on the couch yesterday trying to get a little rest.  Oh, for the days, when I could function after a night of no sleep!
