Tonight we went to THE social event of the season. Our daycare’s holiday program. Yes, they even have holiday programs at the crawl and non-talking stage. “What”, you ask, “do the babies and toddlers do at the program, pray tell?”
Not much.
It was more of an adventure in getting the children on the stage. Truly it was pretty funny. We went there and put the kids backstage. Anya dutifully went to her teacher, while Kailan took some effort. We went out front and we could all hear the crying, screaming, cranky children (it was almost bedtime since it was scheduled at 7pm).
Each class came out, and invariably, one (or several) of the little urchins would spy their parents in the audience and make a break for it. The Toddler class seemed to be the worst, with the kids crying and running for mommy and daddy. Anya, of course, walked out unaided and was just watching the chaos.
Kailan’s class sang Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer. Note I said his class and not HIM. I don’t think he really knew the words since he just moved into that room and my efforts to sing it with him today resulted in him saying, “Mommy do it.” No dice…he weren’t singing that song! At least he stood there for the duration of their time on the stage.
After each class was done with their choral piece, their teachers gave them candy canes. 😯 Yep, that’s just what a bunch of kids, already high-strung on excitement from the night, need…SUGAR.
Once the program ended we took the kids out in the lounge area where we congregrated and watch the sugar levels in our children rise. Once they reached peak capacity, the children decided to run around a door. They all chased each other around a doorway for about 10-15 minutes, and it was pretty constant running the whole time. Kailan, Anya and some of Kai’s friends really tried to run off that sugar. All of us adults were getting dizzy just watching them!
Near the end Kailan was holding his side, from what we could only assume were cramps from running so much. Avery gave her mom her cute little jacket that went with her dress because she had gotten so hot. Ah, to have that much energy!

Having fun 😀
