As it rains here on December 20, I wonder if global warming really is an actual fact. We haven’t had much snow for the past few years and this is just plain ridiculous. The kids should be outside playing in a foot and a half of snow and building snow forts…not watching the gentle rain fall. The rain turned to snow later in the afternoon and we received a dusting. I know other areas were graced with several inches of lustrous wet snow. It is sure to keep Aleve in business from all the backaches that will occur from shoveling that mess.
I’m sure if all the rain we received today were in the form of snow we would have at least a foot of snow on the ground. Darn it all! I can say that since I am snug in my little home with my lovely children and don’t have to drive or fly anywhere. It is nice to LOOK at the snow…driving in it is a whole other matter. Driving here is always an adventure when it is snowing. You have several types of idiots.
1. The non-native idiots who slow to a crawl in a dusting of snow. They are unable to function with an inch of snow and make all the other drivers on the road want to shoot them since they are afraid to be on the road…yet, there they are, creating massive slow downs.
2. The I-just-got-an-SUV driver. They go too fast for conditions since they think having 4-wheel drive makes their vehicle impervious to slippery roads. You may have noticed them as you drive past their overturned vehicle in the ditch.
3. The drivers that just don’t think. I can’t remember how many times I have been cut off by people in rush hour traffic when I leave enough room to stop quickly, if needed. Slide room, if you will. These people will take that opportunity and cut in front of you leaving about 2 inches of space on either side of their bumper. They do that since this is a no-fault insurance state and they would only have to pay for the wreckage on their car. Nice, huh?
Now that I’m all mad at the drivers I didn’t have to deal with…onto the damage caused by the rain. Daddy is currently out finding something to fix our sump pump. This happened last year during a winter rain, too. Something is plugged in the pipe somewhere so the pressure causes the sump pipes to break apart at the junctions and spew water all over the basement everytime the sump activates. Last year it was really bad…this time there’s just a little water.
Now we are just trying to keep the kids out of our indoor puddle. They are just itching to drop down and roll in it, because that is what kids do…get messy. Right now as I type, every other sentence I have to stop and make sure they are not playing in water.
We see the catastrophe of the situation…all they see is fun playtime. Ahhhh…to be a kid again. 🙂
