After the glorious orgy of toys that occurred on and around Christmas this year, I decided to put some of the toys in storage bins destined for the back recesses of our basement.  I then decided to clean the basement and see what I could be tossed…Errr…given away to lucky recipients. 😉  I put all the bins with the kids’ toys and grown out clothes in one part of the basement, and wow…do they have a lot of stuff they don’t use anymore!  Some of the toys were barely used since they have so many toys.  Well, that and the fact that they both prefer playing with matchbox cars above anything.

My grandmother also cleared out her basement before Christmas, and gave me all the toys she so lovingly stored for us over the years.  They were..ummmm…well loved and well used.  Very, very well used.  Unfortunately most of the doll clothes had plenty of ripped seams and stains.  There were a few that were salvageable.  The rocking doll crib was broken and posed a “hurting hazard” so that bit the dust.  The  baby dolls suffered from the same malady as my old Barbie dolls, so they have gone to their final resting place, as well.

There was a nice wooden doll crib and an old Holly Hobby high chair in the collection that seem to be in decent shape.  I plan on cleaning them up and painting them to match at some point this winter.  The doll bed also needs a mattress, so I will come up with that and make a cute little sheet set for it.  A fun little little project for mommy!  I’ll make sure to post the before and after pictures of my little HGTV project.

Which, by the way I was watching yesterday for the first time in ages.  Kailan came downstairs from his nap and started crying at the prospect of suffering to watch home improvement.  Little blasphemer!

The moral of this story is just don’t save this stuff unless it is an heirloom quality type of toy.  Seriously all the plastic crap that breaks, is just not worth storing for 20 years.  I know it is my fault since I wanted to keep it all as a child.  Tough love, mom and dad, tough love…

I am still a little on the fence about giving away all the stuff we have stored right now…just in case.  Since most of our friends have come down with pregnancy-itis, I feel like as soon as we give away all of the stuff I will come down with it, too.  Please God, have pity on us and don’t bless us with any more children…we want a clean-er basement!
