Perhaps it is because our house is a mess. Perhaps it is because I have to put 4 to 5 coats of paint on the cabinets. The kitchen seems to be taking a LONG DANG TIME. I know in reality, it isn’t really. You hear stories about people that go 6 months without their kitchens and I would seriously crack if that was the case! I think we are on a month or so now, and it is just dirty and full of paint cans and dust and just well…dirty.
For those that think I do it all, believe me, I am not! Our downstairs looks like a tornado hit it, and the kids aren’t helping. Since it’s already so dirty they think we won’t notice all the toys and papers and dirty clothes strewn all over the place. But I do. And it’s driving me C.R.A.Z.Y. Pigsty comes to mind.
Today we will (hopefully) be getting our countertops in, so that is very nice. Right now everything is all over the place since we had to empty them for the installation. I was hoping to have the bottom cabinets done before the install, and I do have some (4!!) coats on them. Not the doors yet, though. I’m hoping I won’t have to fix too much after they tear off the old countertop.
After the first two coats of the BLUE!, I was a bit concerned. It seemed a little, well, BLUE! Like imagine the electric BLUE! from the 80’s. That kind of BLUE! I actually laughed that hysterical, OMG WHAT HAVE I DONE laugh. Getting a few more coats on it will hopefully tone it down a bit.
Right now I’m trying to just be patient. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and cabinets apparently take a long dang time to paint. I’m not quite sure how they get it all done on those HGTV shows, but apparently they have lots of extra hands…or no sleep…maybe both.
We also have one of Brian’s friends over this weekend. Since he’s single, I’m sure our house won’t be any dirtier than his…I hope. 😉

On another note….HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM!
Hang in there, I’m sure the end results will justify the mess that is right now….
And think of how great you’ll feel when it’s done knowing how much you put into it. Very rewarding.
The clutter during a remodel can be so frustrating. Our kitchen took 6 weeks and we were living in our basement because some of our floors were being done too. Cooking on a campstove and in a microwave for 6 weeks was interesting, but it was all worth it. I am so type A and I just gritted my teeth and kept going in spite of the mess! You’ll get there.
Oh that is so hard….. ugh!! I have to tell you that I completely understand that need for just a little bit of organization… I feel really chaotic without it.. if my home gets too cluttery… even the kid’s rooms, Momma get cranky… oh yes! Hang in there, friend!! Hang in there!!
Hugs.. Amy
It will be worth all the mess. I promise. Can’t wait to see photos.
But in the end, it will be SO worth it! just keep your eyes on the prize…that fabulous kitchen at the end of the tunnel! And I’m sorry, but I couldn’t help but giggle at the electric blue cabinets.
There’s just something about home renovations that deplete’s one patience supply in 10 seconds or less. I’m sure it will all be worth it, it sounds amazing!
I agree home renovations are so emotional and draining, but when done- happy happy.
I second (and third and fourth) the other comments about how it will all be worth it!
And you’re not afraid of color, or re-doing something, so don’t freak about the blue just yet 🙂
I once painted my living room a lovely combination of butternut squash yellow (really lovely) with a wash of a bit of tangerine (not so lovely and quite a bit brighter than the glaze seemed to indicate). Then topped it off with an awesome true red crown moulding.
My Dad for years called it “the bad mexican restaurant paint job”. Thanks Dad.
Poor Mr. Daddy is gonna have a ton of work this year if we dive in on completing our new house! So just imagine the kitchen times 50 and you’ll feel better, right? 🙂
I am not one for clutter…or a messy kitchen but you are getting a good thing in the end!!!
Looking forward to seeing the results….4 coats…you do have some patience! 🙂
I seriously don’t know how you do it…if you make it in 2 months for your kitchen, that WILL be amazing! My parents took like 3 years! HA! Of course, they were raising the ceiling & completely re-doing the floor plan, but still! I hope you guys get it done soon so you can just sit back and enjoy it!
Oh I feeeeeeeeel for you! I was without a kitchen for ELEVEN WEEKS once! By the end of it I was going just a littttttle biiiit craaaazy.
I also painted doors electric blue once! If I get around to posting a DIY post (I’m thinking about it anyway)I’ll let you have a laugh at them!
PS: So sad you’re closing down Theme Thursday. I know I was a hopeless participant recently but I like to know it was ‘there’. 🙂
I find it horribly hard to pick paint colors. I can decide which color I want, but the shade is the hardest thing ever for me! I painted the backsplash of our kitchen 3 different colors in one weekend because every color I did looked awful to me once applied. I had that same OMG WHAT HAVE I DONE laugh.
This too shall pass….And you’ll have another project knocked off the list! :o)
