I’m afraid Kailan is all boy in that respect.
Here are some examples…
We have a mini climbing wall on our super-deluxe-we-were-so-glad-it-came-with-the-house-outdoor redwood play contraption. This wall has proven to be difficult for the children to master, resulting in much adult assistance and pushing little butts up the wall. This past week we may have mastered it.
Anya got up there the first few times with a little assistance from me. After that she wanted no part of the pushing up the wall, and said, “I can do it! Let me do it!”. Really, she didn’t have to tell me twice, as I was glad to not have to do it anymore.
Kailan ended up like this the first time he tried. He had a bit of angst about me taking a picture of him in this predicament and not instantly running to help him along with a little butt push up the wall.
After he saw that his sister was doing it all herself (in a dress no less!), he felt some man shame and decided to attempt it himself. At which point he decided that I needed to tighten the screws on all the holds because they moved too much. After making certain adjustments with my handy screwdriver, Kailan was assured of his safety and climbed with some dexterity up the wall. “Some” as in “not much”, but at least he didn’t fall. After a few more times, it wasn’t too painful to watch him do it anymore.
Oh what a glorious day it was! Now if he can attempt a little more coordination in his swimming classes he might not need to be taken out for private tutilage to help him catch up to the girls in his class. I think it is a bane of most young men…they just haven’t figured out how to master their limbs yet. 😉
What a FUN thing to have! We have a wall kind of like that at our local park. Adam tries to climb it ALL of the time and gets so mad when he can’t do it. I’m glad to know the coordination comes eventually!
Your OWN rock wall. Your backyard is serioulsly TOO COOL. We have a strange phenomenon going on. Nadia used to be able to climb anything and everything. But in the last 6 months, she’s suddenly afraid to do so. Huh?
Now adventure wise…my daughter is so much more adventurous and brave! She would scale that wall in seconds flat..where as my son will survey the scene, if it’s safe he will proceed with caution 🙂
What a fun apparatus! I think Boo and I should add one to our back yard.
Hi-larious. My sis broke her arm before she was 2 years old – by falling off the TOP of the jungle gym in our backyard (mind you… it was a SWING SET and she was on the tope, on a horizontal metal pole!)
Me on the other hand… I about had a heart attack watching (and helping) Itty Bit wrangle his way up a curved overhead ladder. I’ll post pictures on that soon so you can share the anxiety, LOL.
Sure gotta love that those butt-pushing days just might be over! 🙂
Poor old Kai! Glad he made it in the end. This was one of the BA’s fave activities too.
oh…i’m laughing at his dismay at your taking photos instead of helping him out of his predicament! that is great!
When I read the title of this post, I thought you were talking about me! LOL! That’s funny that Kai wasn’t about to be topped by his sister! Boys will be boys! 🙂
What a timely post! Colby is a little lacking in the coordination area too. (As well as the courage department.) Not a great combination. Well, yesterday we finally got him to climb up into the play place at McD’s. In the past he has just run around watching the other kids have all the fun. It’s so fun to watch them develop! Good luck with the swimming lessons, it will all come with time!
I think you’re right about your last comment. Boys take a few more years to catch up sometimes, although I’m glad to see he has conquered the wall. 🙂
I can sympathize with Kai on the coordination aspect of things…I am most certainly one of the most uncoordinated people that I know!
And what a cool play structure!
