Since our kitchen took center stage this spring, we are a little behind on the yardwork. We need to plant our cannas and dahlias. We always get a bunch of petunias that go in the front planter, and we need some plants for our pots by the front door and at the front of the walkway.
Although we have been adding perenial plants every year to our garden, we always need more. There was a lot of empty space that we needed to fill, but plants can be spendy. They don’t always survive, either. Those darn bunnies!
Thankfully, we have color for most of the spring. It starts with our trees, the azaleas in the back and the iris’ in the front yard. Our phlox is finally blooming with much gusto this year, on it’s third year in the ground (little purple flowers below). The french lilacs in the front and backyard smell so wonderful right now.
Then the purple and yellow iris’ in the backyard start blooming. When they are almost spent, the red and gold Asian lilies are usually ready to pop out. Once it gets warmer the annuals start to spread and some of our flowering perrenials bloom. The peach, white and pink roses by the front door start in late June. The daylilies greet guests as they walk up our sidewalk on the right, and the clematis on the left. In August, the Dahlia and Canna plants produce big beautiful flowers into the Fall. The bumble bees love our yard! We do, too. 🙂
We usually buy a new garden statue, too. I bought a bunch one year and just added one last year. I need to figure out what to buy this year yet. It’s pretty much angels and fairies that gets bought. I really like this one, but it’s a bit nudey. It just think it evokes such emotion, but eventually we will have a teenage boy. 😉
We bought a bunch of plants last night at the nursery. We were pretty much the only people there since it was in the 90’s. Yeah…a bit unseasonably WARM here. This weekend it should be in the 70’s…which is normal for this time of year. Perfect planting weather. 🙂
pink crabapple tree
white crabapple tree
azalea bush (we think)
phlox
Herman’s Pride (ivy like) and little fairy – it will flower yellow soon
have no idea…Brian threw away the package before I wrote it down…it’s a bulb of some kind
Hope everyone’s gardens are growing. 🙂
I love the pink crab apple !! It just has the most beautiful flowers ! I’d love to see a wide angle shot of your yard … to see how all these tress and statues and whatnot fit together !!
We have had so much rain that it has been hard to find time to garden, so I feel your pain. It looks like you already have a beautiful garden though!! We have those little purple flowers all over the place at our house too. I think they are called Common Grape Hyacinth.
Thanks Jen! I was hoping someone would have those flowers in their yard. 🙂
Enjoy every minute out there! I’m sure you do. Everything is lovely, dear.
I don’t think the Hermans Pride will flower this year. I believe it is biennially flowering variety of dead nettle. I didn’t even know it flowered when we got it. At the time it was purely intended to be a filler with interesting color and texture.
Oh yes it will Dear…some of them have buds on them ready to flower. 🙂
If this is what “being behind” looks like in your yard…well, then I want to be there. 🙂 Looks lovely to me! My inlaws have that same little fairy statue (the one with Herman’s Pride).
Oh…I love “too nudey” – the 12-year old in me is over here snickering.
Man I miss the crabapple trees we used to have in Chicago – not so much when the apples drop, but the spring! They are glorious.
And yes – I think the little purple ones are Grape Hyacinths…they are so pretty and delicate!
Your garden looks like a true Eden…I would want to hang out there all summer long!
I know I said it last year, but I want to walk through your garden.
Once again you have done it, Stacy!! Goodness gracious, what stunning pictures! You know what would be so incredible?? I would love to see your WHOLE yard! Yeah! In one snap shot… the whole kahuna! I bet it is crazy incredible!
Thanks for the peaks… all the colors make me so happy!
Oh, and when you get a sec.. come by my blog! i have something for ya girl!
Hugs.. Amy

Your garden photography is always a breath of fresh air. Beyond gorgeous.
Personally, I love the statute you’re considering.
