YES! We saw a movie! This is a rarity in our house since we don’t live close to the grandparents and can’t just call them over for a few hours to watch the kids. So…movie + babysitter = expensive night. Something we only treat ourselves to every once in a blue moon.
For this momentous occasion we chose to see 300. After watching it Brian wanted to smoke a cigarette and write about it…it was JUST THAT GOOD.
This was a movie that lends itself well to the big screen and the big blaring surround sound. The cinematography was phenomenal, and is truly like nothing you have seen before. Yes, it was violent…but what do you expect out of a film about a battle? It wasn’t quite as bloody as Braveheart (few are), but it is the same type of movie. Men fighting for freedom with a heroic central figure. What makes it so poignant is that it actually happened…it’s a historical occurrence. Of course Hollywood took liberties with some of the story (like they ALWAYS do), but the basic story of 300 Spartans holding off the army hoard of Persia is true.
What makes it so unique is how the director shot the film. There are scenes that were in slow motion, like ballet in a battle. They also have a fair amount of CGI adding to the feel of the film. It is really hard to explain this film’s characteristics. So, if you like movies like Braveheart and Gladiator, I’m sure you will love this movie.
If you are female and you don’t like these movies, but your significant other really wants to go…there is a whole sea of ripped abs. *wink, wink* I don’t think I’ve seen that many 6-8 packs in one place…EVER!
