Marriage is all about compromise. When we were looking at furnishing our basement, Brian really wanted a poker table. That meant no other furniture down there since we just didn’t have the room. Me notsolikey. Brian found our nice counterheight bench table on clearance. That looked like a good multi-purpose table and fit enough people, so I told him that I would make him a cover with poker fabric.
As usual, you can find anything online. I found a site that sold poker table fabric (water-resistant…like they are drinking water! Bwaaahaaahaaa!!), so we chose a color that sorta matched the room. As usual, it looked like it matched better online than in person, but it works. I made it with a cotton batting layer between a black cotton layer on the underside, so it was lightly padded (easier to pick up cards that way). It attaches to the table like a fitted bedsheet. Just elastic in a casing to go around it and make it tight. The fabric was around $14/yard and came shipped on a tube.
Voila! Happy hubby and happy me.
It’s pretty reflective fabric with the flash, so the 2nd picture shows it better.
I’ll have to keep this in mind…my hubby is a poker player as well. Nice compromise!
Oh, you are so right. Marriage is all about compromise. That is for sure. What a great solution. The fabric looks perfect and I love that it is “water” resistant. I am sure that will come in handy.
Nice compromise! That’s cool you found the right fabric, helps make sure the atmosphere is right for the drinking and the gaming.
Pretty spiffy! Yay for a solution that makes everyone happy
Very nice!
That is a really great idea!
You didn’t mention the whole compromise on the basement design. With a great clearance find while looking for a poker table we were able to eliminate a bar extending into the room with the bar-height table and bench/stools, then satisfy the poker needs with the fabric. It was a 3-for-1 which we actually like better than the original theory.
a 3 for 1 is better than just a plain old give and take any day….LOL
You guy’s make a great team.
But who is the better poker player???? ROFL
it totally is all about compromise, isn’t it? nice work – and keeping hubs happy is always a good compromise.
It looks so awesome, Stacy! I can totally envision some poker playing along with some adult beverages in that space!
