Lately I have read about people gettin’ all nervous about their information and pictures being out on the web.  About, you know, how safe are we on the web from all the freakin’ freaks out there??

So, since I’m sure everyone is craving to know my take, here it is.

Use common sense!

Yes, it is amazing I could come up with that, right??

I know, I use my kids’ real names instead of some cute abbreviation and I put their un-watermarked photos up, too.  I, however, don’t say, “Here is our address, I’ll have drinks on the deck at 6pm…see you there!”  We are as unlisted as you can get, that is if you actually knew which city to look for us.  ‘Cause I don’t tell that either.  I mean our family already knows where we live, it’s not like we need to keep tellin’ them.  If you read this blog you know the state and the general vicinity in which we live.  I’m comfortable with that.

I’ve also had time to get to my level.  I started our family website in 2004 and then started the blog sometime in 2006…I think.  It all gets fuzzy after awhile.  There are a few items that I have taken off the site, and I’m watchful of what I write.  Occassionally I do get worried, but I try not to let what the freakin’ freaks do dictate how I live MY LIFE.

I just try to use common sense.

Another thing, is that people are uncomfortable with having strangers find their site.  Do you realize how hard it is to find an individual blog?  With how many blogs that are coming out of the woodwork every minute, Google is having tough times keeping up with them all.  If your blog doesn’t get many hits, it isn’t even showing up for Google searches.  If you have a last name like ours, well, let’s just say there are a lot of websites out there with the same name.  We aren’t even on the first 10 pages.

*Sigh* I feel so unpopular…
