Dinnertime is always an interesting affair with a toddler.  We struggle daily trying to get some variety into his diet.  He has a rather simple palate.  If he had his choice, it would be cheese sticks, cheese chunks, apple juice, and maybe some yogurt to mix it up.  However, if there is something he can dip in ketchup, then he will give it a try.  Piece #1 is submerged in the ketchup just a little bit.

Piece #2 gets a full dunking in the ketchup. Piece #3 gets dunked in the ketchup, flipped and dunked one more time.

Piece #4 gets left on the plate, as he puts 2 fingers in the ketchup and ecstatically licks it off. At this point it is utter coercion to try to get him to eat anything other than the ketchup.   Ketchup is not a condiment for Kailan, rather it is a food group.  I think we can all say a collective “Ick!” to that!

Speaking of foodies, since our little girl became mobile, she has become quite adept at finding bugs and putting them in her mouth, regardless of morbidity.  We have a large contingent of elder bugs that have decided to live out the winter in our house.  No matter how often we sweep, they just seem to multiply.    We just don’t get it.  Perhaps she likes the feeling of multiple wire-like legs running on her tongue. I think another collective “Ick!” is in the works.
