On several blogs I have seen the crayons remolded in a muffin or cookie tin.  I though this would be a great little Christmas gift for some of the little ones in our lives.  Not a big gift, but something fun when we get together at parties and such during the holidays.

I put Kailan to work peeling off the wrappers of crayons, which is one of his favorite things to do anyways.  He really was my little helper on this project.  We got a bag of crayons and then we filled up the $9.99 Wilton’s Christmas mold I found at Michael’s.  Don’t overfill, but enough to get to the tops.  We put them in the oven at 200 degrees F for about 15-20 minutes and then set them outside to cool off and harden.  Once they harden they come apart from the side (if not, just a few bangs of the pan should send it flying).  Voila – fun holiday/winter themed crayons!  To store them prior to gifting, I wrapped them in plastic wrap so they didn’t bang up and mark/color each other in the bag.

Next I used some of my surplus holiday fabric and made little bags for the crayons.  Just a simple bag with a ribbon tie.  Now we needed some paper, because that is just cruel to give a little kid a crayon and nothing to use it on.  I have a whole bunch of nice white paper.  It was free from work, since it has an old logo on it, so I just needed to use the paper around the letterhead.  I cut it to the size of a small notebook and punched a hole in the top corner.  I used some cute little brads to secure them, and it was all done!

It’s a fun,  simple and low cost gift for the kids’ little friends.  Plus, they had the chance to really help with the project and they loved that.

I didn’t manage to get much more done this past week.  Still working on getting the basement in some semblance of order before I tackle pictures.  I do have one thing that needs to get made before Wednesday, though.  A poker table cover for the table downstairs.  That is apparently TOP PRIORITY right now. 😉
