Warning: Shopping at Costco will cause a serious depletion in your wallet and make you think you really do need 6 packages of cream cheese and 4 lbs of carrots. Enter at your own risk!!
Today I had another foray into the state of being that is Costco. Everytime I go there my eyes get all dazzled and my mind gets befuzzled at the perceived deals jumping off the racks in my direction shouting “BUY ME!!!” That must be how my cart always ends up filled to the brim by the time I get to the checkout. And those are big, dang carts, too!
Today’s purchase:
- 2 new pillows – planned on buying
- 1 big bag of cups for the auction – planned
- Fresh Artisan garlic bread that was still warm – kinda planned
- Sicilian brushetta mix – ummm, not planned, but it will sure taste yummy on that bread!
- 6 packages of cream cheese – well, I needed one and they don’t expire until September (holy preservatives batman!) so I’m SURE that I will use them all by then.
- 2 containers of fresh Vodka sauce and ravioli – yes, it was around lunchtime and I was hungry…mmmm, yummy, yummy….
- Picture frames – kinda planned and is there really a doubt that I will use them?
- Scrapbook Albums and handmade scrapbook paper – not planned, but in my defense the books were leather!! and only $15 for two!! The papers are just lovely and really you can never have enough scrapbook papers, right? Right???
I’m sure I bought more but in my shopping ecstasy I have forgotten everything that jumped into my cart…through no fault of my own…
As I get more Costco shopping experience under my belt I am more cognizant of exactly what I am buying and whether it will keep. For instance, today I also bought 6 red/yellow/orange bell peppers. I know I won’t use them all before they go bad, but I love them and they are so cheap there. I plan on pre-cutting and freezing them so I have them on hand. Also their chicken breasts are a great deal and they are already prepackaged into groups of 2. Anything that makes my life easier is such a great find!
I tell ya it is worse that Target, but at least you don’t go there as often as Target.
Believe it or not, I exhibited restraint today. I’m serious, so how scary is that?? I won’t tell you what my bill was, but if you go to Costco, you pretty much plan on everything in your cart costing $10 each and it will average out to about that.
Yep, heed the warning….
And I just remembered that I forgot to get more diapers…
We don’t have a Costco here. A Sams Club in the next town, but I’m not a member. Probably for the best!
But you’re right–you can never have too much scrapbook paper 🙂
My advice: Send the husband. Then anything he buys is his fault. I never know what good deals I missed. Every now and then he drags me in Sams Club, but he knows that is absolutely detrimental, so he doesn’t try often.
Alissa, it is probably good it you want to save money! Even though some things are cheaper you end up spending a lot everytime you go there. BUT, the price of gas is worth the membership alone for us. Since yours is in the next town that wouldn’t work quite that well for you. Oh, and I’m glad you agree with me on the scrapbook paper. 🙂
Natalie, The hubby does prefer not to take me LOL! He is pretty good about controlling himself. Me…not so much! 🙂
