Maybe it is just my children, but they truly enjoy dipping food in stuff. Those fish sticks and chicken nuggets need some dipping sauces or else they are just not good enough and may be thrown across the table. I grew up in a house where we never bought dips, we made them. It is easy to make and you just make enough up for dinner and don’t have to worry about a whole bottle going bad. So, here’s a few of my favorites. Mind you, the measurements aren’t exact, since I never measure when I make these, but they should be close.
Tartar Sauce:
3/4 cup Miracle Whip or Mayonnaise
1 TBSP Dill Relish
1 tsp lemon juice
1 TBSP onion, minced (optional)
Mix all ingredients together. Done! Taste and see if it tastes fine and just adjust the ingredients. I usually put more lemon juice in because I’m pretty partial to sour stuff.
Honey Mustard Sauce:
3/4 cup Sour Cream
2 TBSP Miracle Whip or Mayonnaise
2 TBSP Honey
2 TBSP Mustard (Dijon or regular yellow)
Mix well, taste, adjust if needed, and done!
Cocktail Sauce:
1/2 cup ketchup
1 TBSP prepared horseradish
1 tsp lemon juice
Mix well, taste, adjust if needed, and done!
We have a honey mustard recipe, too, but I’ve never thought to put sour cream in it! Yum!! I have a yummy lemon dill sauce. I’ll get it and share it tomorrow.
