I am sad to report that the potty training was utter and complete failure.  Barely begun, our tempestuous child did not take to this monumental task.  So now we wait.

His teachers brought him to the potty every 20 minutes and tried to get him to go.   I dropped him off at 7:30 and by 9:20 he cried if he got close to the evil potty.  They asked if he wanted a diaper and were answered by a tearful “Yeah”.  The experts say not to push kids into potty training…you don’t want to give them performance anxiety.

It may mean that we now have to actually do some research on potty training.  I have skimmed the web, ask other moms their opinions, and spoken to his teachers.  We went out and bought the little potty that makes noises when they go pee/poop and looks like a throne, thinking “How cool is that!” (Yes, it is sad…we get excited about a crapper)

I did NOT want to go to the extent that some parents have gone…buying books and DVD’s that have cutesy sayings, songs, etc. about potty training and going “poopy”.  I was brought up to believe that these things were just not discussed in polite society, and now look at the depths to which we have plunged.

I am, of course, not above bribery in this particular case.  I have heard that suckers, gum and stickers work pretty well.  We may try that, and if all else fails, there is always cheese.

But for right now it’s back to Costco for another 10 cases of diapers.
