Kai is a big boy.  If you didn’t know this rather pertinent and important fact about the elder child…he will be sure to tell you. Often.  Everyday.  The boy has a rather annoying habit lately.  I know, how could someone so ridiculously cute be annoying…but it happens.  Oh, how it happens!

Anytime he does something wrong, or we ask him to do something differently, we are treated to:

But I’m a big boy!  *throw body on ground and pout*

It is the all encompassing answer that justifies everything in his tiny little world.  It is the reason for his actions, regardless of whether it makes any sense at all.  Most of the time, it is rather a nonsensical answer.

M/D: “Kai, don’t hit your sister!”

Kai: “But I’m a big boy!”

M/D: “Kai, go change your clothes.  It’s time for daycare.”

Kai: “But I’m a big boy!”

M/D: “Kai, stop throwing a temper tantrum.”

Kai: “But I’m a big boy!”

Obviously, it is the answer to suit all situations.  I swear, we hear this little gem of a phrase ALL THE TIME.  Our usual counter is, “Big boys listen to their parents”.  Ummm, yeah, we know that is quite the stretch, but we are trying to reason with a three-year old.

That’s an oxymoron isn’t it.  Emphasis added. 😉
