We are in the midst of t-ball season right now. The little man seems to really love it, too. He is often practicing throwing and catching his ball…inside and outside of the house. We have yet to have any broken glass, but it is just a matter of time. 😉
The only issue came a week or so back. He was running to the base while two other kids were running for the ball and one of them took him out. He was pretty scraped up on his forearm, but not life injuring. I would be the anti-helicopter mom. I washed it off with his water bottle, gave him a little hug and then gave him the sports-mean-injuries-sometimes-son-so-get-back-out-there talk. He finished up the game and we came home and found a big bandage. He recovered and it doesn’t seem to dent his enthusiasm…though maybe he watches the other kids a bit more. A learning experience, for certain.
Looks like a pro to me! 😉
You’ve got the right idea I reckon. Kid’s take their cues from adults. If you make a huge fuss about a little injury the kids perceive there really is something to cry about! You handled it beautifully. Sport can be such a great, positive part of kids lives. There’s so much to learn. How to lose for one thing:-)
There is a time for helicopters, and there is a time for them to fly on their own….
sounds to me like you handled it just right…
He looks like a natural….
