Our kids have inherited their daddy’s bad skin. They have eczema and the awful dry skin that it entails. Summer is usually not too bad, as there is enough moisture in the air to keep their skin healthy. During the winter they have humidifiers in their rooms at night and that helps immensely.
However…
Last night I noticed that baby girl’s skin was pretty dry as I was putting her to bed, so we sat down on the floor to lotion her up. I started with the regular stuff, and noticed it was particularly bad and crusty. Poor girl.
I got out the big guns. The super thick eczema cream. I started putting on the Aveeno baby eczema cream and she started shaking, crying and saying, “OWIEEEEEE!” 🙁
I washed that off hoping the moisture from the water would help and it was just so dry that the cream was uncomfortable. I tried again. Same result. Rinsed it off again.
I dug around in the cupboard and found a new tube of Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream and tried that one. No screaming or crying and she was even helping me put it on. The Gentle Naturals had Aloe in it, which is probably what set it apart from the Aveeno.
Product review: Aveeno – BAD 😥 Gentle Naturals – GOOD 😀
This morning it was much better. I guess I need to stay more diligent with the lotion. I have noticed that Kai’s has been much better this past year, so hopefully Anya’s will get better, too.
Those darn genes…don’t they know that we only want to keep the good stuff and they just need to throw away the bad stuff?
Nicky had some problems with eczema when he was a baby, but as he’s gotten older it’s more of a “sensitive skin” issue. No laundry detergent with scents or dyes, no band-aids, scent-free baby wipes, etc… Perhaps they’ll grow out of it? I hope so!
I am hoping that my kids will grow out of it, too. I do use the laundry detergent with no dye or scent, so hopefully that helps.
