Isn’t that always the way that summers go?

Our weekends have been full with running back to WI for various family/friend gatherings and going-ons.  Our garden is overrun with weeds, since we just haven’t been getting outside to work on it.  The weather has been humid and hot as heck lately, so we just hibernate in the air conditioning when we get home at night.  This week we are finally getting a break, thank goodness.

I have been diligently working out lately, so my free time has been full trying to fit that in to our busy schedules.  I am pretty pumped right now, since I have been seeing the scale go lower.  Yay!  Brian said, “I can tell you have been working out.”  Then he said, “Those were new jeans weren’t they?”  Errrr….well, yes, I have buying too many new clothes lately.  Mostly fancy jeans and high heels.  It is a problem, and I must rein myself in.  Brian buys wine…and I buy high heels.  Of course, Brian’s computer BROKE, so add that in to the expenses-we-really-didn’t-need-right-now.

They obviously begged me to bring them home…I just couldn’t say no!  They were on sale!

The kids started soccer last weekend.  It’s fabulous.  They play at 4 different times during the week.  Anya’s games are at 6pm on Fridays and 5pm on Saturdays.  I believe I said WTF?? and started spitting nails when I saw that.  Apparently parents with 5 year-olds have no social life to speak of…or at least that is what the scheduler thought.  I can pretty much guarantee she won’t be at every game.

Luckily mommy was able to find an athletic skort…because shorts are just not princess-y.

They were having quite the time finding volunteer coaches, and we weren’t raising our hands.  Neither one of us has any knowledge, nor desire to know anything about soccer.  Apparently children like it though, so thusly, we have signed them up for 2+ months of watching small children run in packs after a small ball.  Should be thrilling.  Anya got pinks socks and white/pink soccer shoes, so of course…she is thrilled.

We are also less than a month from school starting.  Both our babies will be in public school.  *SOB*  Not sure how it happened, but apparently they are growing up faster than the speed of light.  Anya is very excited to be going into Kindergarten.  Hopefully she will have some friends in her class, but the school has quite a few classrooms per grade.  There is no guarantee she will have any of her buds with her, but she should know some of the kids.  Daycare has quite a few kids transitioning to Kindergarten so the odds are on her side.  Kai knew no one in his class last year, but still he did okay with it.

School starting means that I need to get busy with my sewing machine for the Fall/Winter wardrobes. I generally take the week of Labor Day off and sew up their clothing.  That will be my plan this year again, and I’m drawing up designs for what I want to make.  It has occurred to me that some people actually take vacation to REST.  Quite the concept!   I haven’t sewn anything substantial in weeks.  I did sew up some little flannel circle thingies to go around my friend’s little guy’s G-tube.  Just imagine little circles with a hole in the middle for the tube.  I’m hoping they work to help out a bit.

As for recipes and cooking, I haven’t done much other than grill.  I’ve made this halibut dish about once a week because it ROCKS, and then I just grill up whatever veggies we have from the CSA.  If I make something new and delicious I will post it, but thus far I haven’t done anything new.  It’s usually delicious, so that’s just a given. 😉

Well, I hope everyone is enjoying their summertime!  I haven’t done much photographically lately.  I bring my camera everywhere, but don’t use it much.  I guess I’m just not feeling it right now.  That’s okay, though.  I do have some (not a lot) pictures and the harddrive is glad to have a bit of a capacity break. 🙂
