Most people have probably heard about the 35W bridge collapse into the Mississippi River.  The bridge fell 64 feet into the river during rush hour, when the bridge is always packed with bumper to bumper cars.  People were traveling home to their loved ones, maybe a night out in the city, or perhaps to the Twins baseball game at the Metrodome.

I’ve checked in with our friends, and thankfully everyone we know made it home safe and sound last night.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this tragedy.

That bridge is such a major thoroughfare into downtown Minneapolis and through the Twin Cities that it will have a big impact to the immediate area.  Apparently there were some stress fractures on the bridge and they were in the midst of making repairs to the concrete when the collapse occurred.  The engineers apparently gave it a pass since they allowed traffic on it.  I’m sure it will be several months before they find an answer to why this happened.

It’s a scary thing.
