Anya perused my fabric stash and came across this silky, velour-like, shiny blue fabric.  Now, she is not normally one to stray from her chosen fabric color (PINK), but the shiny just called to her.  We paired it with some of the last bits of this soft, furry fabric, and sat down to design a dress.  I completely changed the design afterwards, of course, but it was close enough that she was quite happy with the end result.  She picked out some snowflake buttons I had, and Voila!!  a Snow Princess was born (hopefully she doesn’t bring SNOW with her). 

After getting the dress done with the little snowflake buttons, I immediately thought of this book which we have somewhere in the house, I think.  Either that, or we’ve seen the episode so many times it has been burned into my cranium.

The dress design consists of a basic body for the top, an open collar, extra large sleeves that have been gathered at the shoulder and at the cuff, a drop waist, and a circle skirt on the bottom that has been cut to insert ruffles that have rolled hems on the edges.

The snow princess is really into modeling her dresses lately, which makes taking pictures of her in her dresses very fun. 🙂

She tried on the dress before I had all the buttons sewn on, but I got them finished in time for her to wear it to school the next day.  Unfortunately, she didn’t have any appropriate white shoes to wear with her dress.  As I was dropping her off, she asked me if she could have white boots for the next time she wore them.  I went right to work to find her some (yes, she is spoiled…thanks for reminding me), and I found these boots and was able to get them for only $10.  Score!  I did order them up a size, just because if I find a pair of $50 boots for $10, then she is going to get some wear out of them.  I’ll just make sure she wears her big socks with them.  Oh, and I know they are not a true white, but they are close enough.  I’m sure a white pair would look this color after the first wearing anyways.

Cutting is in process on the chair folder pockets.  My sewing this weekend was interrupted due to a guest in the guest bedroom/my sewing room.  I can’t sew when someone is in there, so I was cutting and knitting instead.

Speaking of knitting…I made this hat for my cousin’s 1 year old little girl.  Her birthday was Saturday, so I took the kids and we traversed over across the border to go to her birthday party.  Since I was giving them a tub full of Anya’s clothes I had made, I didn’t make any other clothes and just bought some toys, plus this super soft chenille knit hat.

Isn’t she CUTE??  Kai and Anya helped her open up her presents.  I think they all had a great time. 🙂

Jen was nice enough to send me some of her felted sweaters for coffee cuffs, since I have never felted wool before.  Thanks Jen! I need to get out my embroidery thread and embellish it up yet.  Maybe I can get to that this week, too.
