I get asked that question from time to time. The basic answer is that I let other parts of our life slide, since busy is my middle name.
My mom came to visit from Thursday night to Saturday. Brian’s family came briefly on Saturday. I spoke to a couple about shooting their reception photos in October. On Sunday I took down wallpaper in our family room and then I shot a commitment ceremony and reception for friends. Somehow, everything got done, but the house definitely wasn’t clean! At least the kids were fed and mostly clean. 😉
Guess what I’m doing this week? Vacation.
Well, a vacation of sorts. I find that due to the fact that I am so overloaded all the time, that I need to take a day off here or there in order to get things done. This week, I am keeping the kids in daycare Tuesday through Thursday, and I’m:
- Getting my car serviced (what IS that burning smell??)
- Getting our carpets cleaned (Really, after 4 years of living here and no carpet cleaning, I now know the definition of NASTY)
- Stripping the remaining wallpaper, clean the walls and paint our family room (I’m pretty sure one of Dante’s levels of hell must have been stripping wallpaper, right?)
If I get that done, I plan on making clothes, making new pillows for the family room, finding some matching sheers and adjust them as needed, make a recipe schedule that should help me out in planning meals, plant some new clearance perennials and get some pots for herbs that I can move inside once the weather changes. Then if I get that done…I have more for the list.
Wish me luck!
i hope you can sneak a little time in the for some R&R for yourself!
and i hear ya on the wallpaper stripping. sucks!
Girl….you are amazing. I hope you make time for some Stacy Time, too!
That doesn’t sound like much of a vacation. But I hope you’ll share what you do with the family room.
People ask me the same question. I pretty much have the same answer. And occasionally I do what you’re doing and send the boys on to the sitter (well, Nick. Drew is in school now) and spend a day catching up.
Make sure you take SOME of that time just for yourself. You don’t want to burn out, you know.
whew. i need a nap after just reading that list. going to slowly unload the dishwasher now…
