We are now entering that wonderful time when your child cries every time you leave them. As if there isn’t enough guilt heaped on a working mother, you have your baby girl crying elephant tears when you leave her with her daycare teacher in the morning. Big, huge, elephant tears…arms outstretched… pleading eyes saying, “Mommy don’t leave me!!”. Can you feel the guilt – is it tangible?
Anya’s teacher is a lovely Indian woman who gives her plenty of attention. Anya is quite obviously her favorite and she tells us all the time how pretty, intelligent and wonderful our child is. As if we didn’t already know, right??
I think Sumita may be a bit hurt by Anya’s reactions to my leaving her in the morning, but a part of me is secretly enjoying the fact that she realizes exactly who her mama is! You don’t want your child to be too overly excited to go to daycare and get away from you, but you also don’t want them to dread it as then there is probably a problem (like little carnivores biting Kai). There is a fine balance to your guilt that needs to be achieved with your daycare center.
