Thursday was Kailan’s 1st grade performance, whereby 4 classes at a time performed some songs for their parents.

The lighting was all kinds of crappy (as one would expect), so no fantastic photos this time.  Still they capture his angsty cow-ness.  He was the main cow.  The main dude.  Front and center with his own solo.  We did not know this, thus we did not buy the DVD and do not own a video recorder.  *sigh*  Guess we will just have to utilize our memories and remember it the old fashioned way.

It looks like he has a lighter in his hand, but no pyrotechnics were engaged for the show.

I call this his Stayin’ Alive pose.

He had to wear his cow outfit to school, since the kids performed in front of their other cohorts during the day.  I reminded him several times to keep it clean for the nighttime performance.   Miraculously…he did!

His costume – he was all kinds of cute. 🙂

The minutiae of his costume…The shirt is a basic knit shirt that I’ve made for him plenty of times.  I fused Heat n’  Bond onto a piece of black knit and drew the patches on the Heat n’ Bond side.  Then I cut them out and fused them on with an iron.  I didn’t stitch around each piece.  This isn’t likely to see a lot of wash and wear and I just didn’t have the time!  The hat was version #2.  It is knit with elastic in the back to make it fit closer and bias tape around the front to tie it.  The pants were a black woolly-looking fleece.  Simple seams, no pockets and elastic waist.  This was a quick and dirty costume, but it still took me two evenings after the kids went to bed to get it all put together.  I tried his hat on him Wednesday night while he was sleeping, and he didn’t even wake up!  I had to make sure it fit. 🙂
