I did not get anything accomplished in the sewing room this past week. Reason? Summer decided to arrive! And I worked out everyday during the week last week! Due to these factors, I did not sequester myself in the sewing room. Then the weekend came and we were outside all day on Saturday landscaping (hello, sunburn!) and then on Sunday we went up to Brian’s hometown for a wake. The kids have been to four wakes, two of which were this year. 🙁
The landscaping that we accomplished this weekend was a bit of planting, lots of weeding and Brian took out a patch of water-logged grass and put some water-loving plants in their place.
We also got some morning glories for free when we were up north, so I put them around the pillars that are supposed to hold up the deck.
Supposed to; not necessarily meaning that they are actively supporting the deck and the three season porch. The corner post is completely rotted out underneath and with a good kick it would be gone. Is it too much to ask that they did something correct on this house?? They apparently didn’t pour footers for the deck and used crap wood. *sigh* Add it to the list of the expensive things we will need to replace on this house. Good thing it has other supports under it. I think it is behind new windows and a new driveway.
I figure by the time everything is all planted and nice looking around the deck area, we will have to rip it off and all that work and growing time will be destroyed. 🙁
Your yard looks great. It looks so peaceful and serene. We have a long list of things that we need to do to the house too. It gets so overwhelming sometimes. Sigh. I guess you just take one project at a time.
Landscaping is such a workout by itself! But it’s close to instant gratification, so almost worth the sore backs, no?
Sorry about the deck… my parents had to rip theirs out completely 🙁
With all your ground water nearby, you’d think the builders would have thought to use concrete and steel for the deck supports????? The problem we have here is termites and anything wooden inserted into the ground is fair game. They have developed ‘treated’ wood which is rot and termite resistent but the variety used in the 70s/80s seems to be coming to the end of it’s ‘treated’ life now because it is failing everywhere. Our backyard retaining wall is a prime example of this. Sometime in the near future we will be re-landscaping our back yard so I feel for you and your deck plantings and their limited undisturbed future….
Garden is looking lovely though.
