Well, here it is…it isn’t pretty! We couldn’t use her beautiful cherry frame for the bed, as her room is too small to accomidate it. To better use the space, we placed the bed in the nook in the wall where the changing table used to reside, and just the bed barely fits. After taking off the built in changing table (note: that sucker wasn’t going ANYWHERE…it had steel cross beams in it), there was a beautiful unpainted part on the wall. Yes, I know I need to get that painted, but I had no leftover paint from when I painted the room 4+ years ago. I remember scraping the paint jar just to get enough to finish the room!
A badly placed chair. This can only end in tears…and bruises.
We also need to get her some pretty bedding. Right now we have a quilt on her bed that was made for us by one of Brian’s relations that we never met. It is a crazy quilt, so basically, it doesn’t match anything, but the underside is PINK! I showed it to her and asked if it would be okay for her bed, and she said, “I want a pink one!”, so I told her she was in luck! She accepted it on her bed so we are golden there. 🙂
She has her monkey pillow on there, so she’s good. I don’t think I wrote about that before, but one day I took the kids to the fabric store to pick out some flannel fabric. They wanted soft pillows, so I made new pillowcases for them. Kai picked out Thomas the Train and Anya picked out a non-mass merchandising cute monkey with a pink background.
She has been sleeping all night long in her room, too. Getting her to finally go to sleep is always a problem, but once she settles in, she sleeps there all night long. It is a comfy bed, too. I was thinking we should just have gotten her a big sheet of plywood since she was partial to sleeping on the floor, but I guess having a pillow-top full sized bed is good enough. 😉 Although, I did find her on the floor briefly last night.
We didn’t put up rails either, because it isn’t that far off the floor (we didn’t put it on a frame yet). Kai never fell out of his bed (well, maybe once that I remember), so we don’t bother. They seem to stay in their beds without having a rail.
Eventually, we will move her to the bigger room next to Kai’s. Right now it is the guest bedroom/office. Whenever we finish the basement, we will move the guest bedroom down there, and then probably move the office to her room. I don’t see that happening anytime soon, so it will be at least a few years off. That’s alright, though. We don’t need 2 huge rooms full of toys to clean up. It is nice to have just one bedroom holding most of their toys.
So there you have it…so far so good!
Yay for a big girl bed!
You could just get a pretty strip of wallpaper border for that spot–she might like having some interest there.
Pottery Barn Kids has really cute little girls bedding 🙂
Chair by the bed…let the games begin! LOL
Anya appears extremely pleased with her big girl bed. I know her mom will have the walls in perfect order very soon…it’s in her blood. 🙂
She seems to be very proud of her big girl bed. I hope the sleeping-in-her-new-bed trend continues!
Alissa, that wallpaper idea doesn’t sound too bad. I will have to think about that… And I do love Pottery Barn kids. I need to look around a bit to see what I can find!
Melody, for some reason I don’t have much ambition right now…so it may be a bit before her room is done! Gee, wonder why that is??
Maya, unfortunately I found her on the floor last night *sigh*. I refuse to put her blankies on the floor so I just move her when I go to bed. I was soooo hoping!
Yay Anya! When Lauren first got her big girl bed, we used to wake up and find her on the dog bed, the hallway, and one time even the mid landing of the stairs, but she eventually got the hang of it.
Woohoo for the pretty new big girl bed! that’s great seh’s taking to it so well. Hey, I wouldn’t mind having an entire full-sized bed to myself, either. 😉
I like the wallpaper idea!
