This morning I had an experience that hopefully I won’t experience again in another 6 months. I am sure you all have seen a movie in which there is a Swedish masseuse who just works over her client; giving them no mercy. Apparently she changed professions. She now works as a dental hygienist. She had the accent, blonde hair, the whole package.
She was very diligent in her work. Spending the better part of an hour poking my gums, pulling on my lips (since they obviously were in the way), and scraping my teeth with various pointy instruments that invariably would hit my gums and the side of my mouth at unknown intervals. She was obviously just trying to keep me awake. She had to do that since I think she spoke all of 3 sentences to me the whole time.
It was rather refreshing to not have the dental hygienist try to carry on a conversation with you while they have their hands in your mouth. I wonder if they are just trying to see how skilled you are at talking around a hand.
When the time comes for us to bring Kai in for his first appointment, we will be on the lookout. If she is the hygienist we will run out the door, since if that is his first experience he won’t want to go to the dentist again until he’s 32 and has to get a root canal.
