Just in case you are the one human on Earth that has not gotten the e-mail, I must do my work to inform the uninformed. Don’t go to see The Golden Compass and support this movie where the children kill God.
It is based on a reportedly much darker series of children’s books which were written by an atheist who has been quoted as saying, “My books are about killing God” and that he was “trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief.” See the full details at snopes.com.
This really bums me out, since it looks like a good movie and I like the actors/actresses in it.
Well, fa-la-la-la-la to you, sir. That’s just what the kids need to see right before Christmas. Hollywood hits one out of the park, yet again.
Oh yikes…not seeing that one!
Thanks for reminding me that I want to blog against this movie.
I hadn’t heard of that. I’m glad you shared the info.
I swear, I’ve gotten no less than 4 e-mails on this, so I figured everyone else had seen it!
After doing some research, it appears that the film is quite watered-down for mass media consumption and isn’t explicit in going after the Church. The movie may seem innocuous, but the books name the Church as the evilness.
Basically, if you see the movie, it will be fairly benign since the movie studios want to make money at it. The books do not sound benign. Seriously, how could a (children’s!!) trilogy called His Dark Materials be anything but sinister?
My question is, is it okay to go see a movie that is benign but markets a book that is not?
whew…
i have to think that by supporting a movie like this it just sends a message to the movie execs that it is okay to make any sort of drivel into a movie and we, the public, will buy it. if we don’t go to the movie and it bombs, maybe we would be sending a different message to the execs – that we don’t want crap movies. that we want good, entertaining movies that we can enjoy and also share with our children. ESPECIALLY at Christmas.
just my two cents worth….
Yep, this movie is on our banned list too. I agree with Carrie. Just because it’s been watered down to look innocuous to the unsuspecting viewer doesn’t make it okay. Even if it’s not all bad, we let them win by ingoring the little bit of bad. And even if the movie itself is okay, as our kids get older they will want to read the books too – what then???
That was my gut reaction, too. I don’t want to support a movie that supports theses books. The author sounds like he is calling the Christians sheep in following doctrine and believing the Bible. We’ll stick with the Chronicles of Narnia.
I did get this email. I was so shocked at the premise of this movie- maybe I’m a bit naive. Glad you’re passing on this information.
BTW… I hope you don’t mind, but I tagged you for a meme.
