I wanted to make some new wristlets.  I tend to use these a lot and my current one is from last April.  The white ribbon is quite stained from a year’s worth of use, and I also wanted something with lighter colors for Spring.   I had this pretty embroidered silk leftover from something.  I think this was the front of a Mei Tai.  I still have bits of silk fabric from those good old days of slave labor sewing.  Yes, Brian, I know I did it to myself.

I had to cut and piece it together to get enough for both sides.  The lining is a sueded upholstery fabric.  My machine was not a fan.

This next one is made from fabric gifted from my sister in law, Susie.  The jacquard has a pretty sheen to it.  The inside is a faux silk with an opulescent sheen to it, as well.  Another leftover bit from the Mei Tai days.

Now I have a few options!

Then dear little Anya needed…something.

During Spring Break week, we were discussing the fun field trip to Chuck E Cheese for daycamp. Anya said she wasn’t excited to go. What kid isn’t excited to go to Chuck E Cheese?? She said last time she went some kid stole all her tickets and tokens when she put them down to go into the jumpy place. I told her I would make her a pouch to put on a belt. She doesn’t have any jeans with pockets, and she didn’t think the wrist wallet I made her would fit the tickets and tokens.

I was handsewing sequin ribbons on a little pouch at 10pm, but I got ‘er done! THAT is why being a sewing mama is so great. She woke up to a cool little pouch, and I got a happy kid!  When she got to the daycamp, one of her friends asked her where she got it.   She looked at me and smiled, saying “My mommy made it.”  🙂

The sequins were something I picked up at Michaels.  They were in those bins by the checkout and it was some sort of “3 for $4” deal.  I figured I could use the sequins for something for Anya as she loves shiny things.  They are all stitched together in a line, so I put some glue on the back, pressed it onto the fabric and then the handstitched it from underneath, catching the stitching line.  The glue kept it in a (mostly) straight line while I stitched it up.  I used silver thread, so it wouldn’t show through the sequins, too.

It worked out pretty well for her, and she ended up carrying some of her friend’s tickets, too.  Girls clothes just don’t have pockets!  She did still lose some tickets, but it was at the school before they left for Chuck E Cheese.  I told to her to keep a better lookout on her stuff, as I know how they just set things down and then then ask US where they put them.   Really, kid??  *sigh*  They will learn…eventually.

My next bag making adventure will be making a new weekender/carry-on bag.  The one I have has been used to death and the zipper is broke.  That’s alright.  It is just a black/gray sports bag type of thing.  I want something a bit prettier, and since I have plenty of upholstery type of fabric…I think I can make one that will work.
